My Approach

As a qualified Gestalt psychotherapist, I offer professional therapeutic support to adults and couples looking for warm, yet confidential and professional therapy.

I am also an accredited Integrative counsellor. My Diploma is in Integrative therapeutic counselling (person centred, psychodynamic, CBT), though I also draw from: Sensorimotor psychotherapy; neuroscience; Polyvagal theory; mindfulness; and creative approaches.

I enjoy working with wide ranging issues, including: challenging marital, family, or other, relationship difficulties; loss and bereavement; low self esteem and confidence; feeling stuck.

Any one of us can struggle with our mental health at times. This, and trauma, are areas I am especially passionate about working with, including, for example: anxiety, stress, panic attacks, phobias; depression; difficulties resulting from attachment issues, or trauma or abuse, e.g. post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); dissociation; monitoring medication prescribed for mental health reasons

I offer both long and short term therapy.

About Me

I enjoy working with both individuals and couples. I named my private practice, 'Hope Matters Therapy' because of my deep belief that for all of us as human beings, being able to find and hold onto hope is an essential part of our well being. Often, I am told I have a deep level of empathy and am good at building strong relationships with people. This I believe comes partly from my own valued experiences of being in therapy, which has been a significant part of helping me work through tangles in my personal life journey.

As a Christian, I enjoy sharing journeys with people from all faith and spiritual backgrounds.

Counselling and psychotherapy weren't my original background. Previously, I worked as a primary teacher, before moving into special needs education where I specialised in working with young people aged 0 - 18 year who were registered either blind or visually impaired. I chose to retrain as a counsellor as I realised that my real passion was in supporting people of all ages in a more holistic way.

Central to my work as a therapist, I am a wife, and a mother to three adult children, my youngest of whom was adopted internationally. Today, my family today is becoming ever more multicultural, with five different countries being represented, reflecting my love for difference and diversity.

To relax, I enjoy walking my two Romanian rescue dogs and learning from them about survival, learning to trust again, healing from pain and unconditional love.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I offer support to people with personality diagnoses (e.g. borderline, narcissistic and schizoid). I prefer to call these personality 'adaptations' or 'disrupted attachment issues' as see them as arising, through no fault of our own, from relationships often in early life. I can offer you support with these adaptations in a relational, non-shaming way.
I offer therapy to both individuals and couples, supporting people to gain awareness of relational dynamics, including how issues are being co-created. In my couples work, I have much experience in working with couples where one or both are experiencing symptoms relating to earlier life trauma, abuse and attachment issues.
As a Christian, I enjoy working with people from all faiths and spiritualities, and from none. I am interested in exploring the impact of my own and clients' spirituality in the therapeutic process. 'Psycho' is Greek for 'soul', hence, I work holistically, believing that as human beings we cannot separate our bodies, minds and emotions, I help you notice and pay attention to sensations arising within your body. Such feelings often contain important messages, e.g. that you are feeling anxious or are angry. Hence becoming more in tune with our bodies is very supportive generally, also a valuable part of healing trauma.
My Certificate in Supervision is from the 'Centre for Supervision and Training Development' (CSTD) in Bath, (recognised by both BACP and UKCP). I enjoy working with both students and experienced therapists, in either agencies or private practice. In our initial session, we can explore what you would like from supervision, and the type and frequency that will be most supportive based on your level of training and experience.  My charge for 60 minutes of supervision is £50. If you are interested, please get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.
I am passionate about working with survivors of trauma, abuse and disrupted attachment. Having recently completed my Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Practice with Relational Change, I am experienced in supporting people bringing post traumatic stress and dissociation.
