As a qualified Gestalt psychotherapist, I offer professional therapeutic support to adults and couples looking for warm, yet confidential and professional therapy.
I am also an accredited Integrative counsellor. My Diploma is in Integrative therapeutic counselling (person centred, psychodynamic, CBT), though I also draw from: Sensorimotor psychotherapy; neuroscience; Polyvagal theory; mindfulness; and creative approaches.
I enjoy working with wide ranging issues, including: challenging marital, family, or other, relationship difficulties; loss and bereavement; low self esteem and confidence; feeling stuck.
Any one of us can struggle with our mental health at times. This, and trauma, are areas I am especially passionate about working with, including, for example: anxiety, stress, panic attacks, phobias; depression; difficulties resulting from attachment issues, or trauma or abuse, e.g. post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); dissociation; monitoring medication prescribed for mental health reasons
I offer both long and short term therapy.
I enjoy working with both individuals and couples. I named my private practice, 'Hope Matters Therapy' because of my deep belief that for all of us as human beings, being able to find and hold onto hope is an essential part of our well being. Often, I am told I have a deep level of empathy and am good at building strong relationships with people. This I believe comes partly from my own valued experiences of being in therapy, which has been a significant part of helping me work through tangles in my personal life journey.
As a Christian, I enjoy sharing journeys with people from all faith and spiritual backgrounds.
Counselling and psychotherapy weren't my original background. Previously, I worked as a primary teacher, before moving into special needs education where I specialised in working with young people aged 0 - 18 year who were registered either blind or visually impaired. I chose to retrain as a counsellor as I realised that my real passion was in supporting people of all ages in a more holistic way.
Central to my work as a therapist, I am a wife, and a mother to three adult children, my youngest of whom was adopted internationally. Today, my family today is becoming ever more multicultural, with five different countries being represented, reflecting my love for difference and diversity.
To relax, I enjoy walking my two Romanian rescue dogs and learning from them about survival, learning to trust again, healing from pain and unconditional love.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
