At some point, most of us will find it hard to make sense of ourselves, our relationships or what’s happening around us. There may be something we know is hurting, or it may be a more general feeling of being ‘stuck’. Therapy can help you reach a better understanding of yourself and gives you a safe space to discover and develop more satisfying ways of living. In therapy we can explore, together, where you’ve been, where you are right now, and where you hope to move forwards to. Therapy can help you get back in touch with yourself and process challenging emotions. Getting to this website suggests that you are already aware of wanting something about yourself or your life to be different. The next step is to find a therapist you feel comfortable with.
Some of the issues I have helped people with include anxiety, depression, anger, relationship difficulties, feelings of ‘stuckness’, bereavement and other losses, concerns relating to sex and sexuality, low self-esteem, problems with work, forms of abuse, trauma and many others.
The essence of my approach is to work with you in a warm, supportive, non-judgmental and confidential relationship that can enable you to find your own way towards a more satisfying way of living. For me, therapy is about nurturing personal growth rather than ‘fixing’ something that is ‘broken’. You will be welcome, as you are, with whatever may be bringing you to therapy.
Professional Experience
I have been practising as a psychotherapist in training for a number of years. As well as in private practice, I have worked for Mind, the Centre for Better Health and for Metanoia’s own counselling service, MCPS.
What happens in a therapy session?
What is brought to therapy is different for everyone. I will be guided by you, and we will work together at exploring your concerns at a pace you find comfortable. The most important thing is that you feel really listened to. Being fully heard, accepted and understood by a compassionate, non-judgemental other can be a deeply healing experience, and can lead to new ways of understanding yourself. Change often happens when you are able to listen to yourself and trust your process. Therapy does not have the answers, but it is a place where answers can be found.
