My Approach

As a Family Therapist (Systemic Psychotherapist) I am dedicated to creating safe reflective spaces where individuals and families can explore their relationships with themselves, others and the world around them.
I deeply consider and care about the unique histories and backgrounds of each person I work with.
I foster understanding of how lived experiences can influence thoughts, feelings and behaviour patterns. Taking into account past experiences, the present context and future hopes and dreams, I work carefully to consider and agree joint aims and goals for therapy.
I endeavour to adapt my approach to suit the needs of the individuals and families that I support.
I seek to work with each individual, family and group with genuine curiosity, sensitivity and care for the things that matter to them.
I am able to adapt my practice so that sessions have space to include and respect the interests of families and individuals that I see. For example, using music, books, art, dance, photography, film, nature, animals, food, sport, play, movement, drawing,
I enjoy cocreating safe and fun environments where people feel comfortable and safe enough to learn together. I truly believe that we are more able to learn and take on new information and ways of behaving when we feel calm and comfortable, this is my priority in sessions. I support families to explore what helps them to find calm and peace, this could mean experimenting with relaxation, body movement, creativity, music, meditation, play and whatever helps regulate individually or co-regulate if needed.
I work alongside you as individuals and help you to create bespoke plans for positive change.

About Me

I have worked with young people and families for over 20 years, initially as a youth worker and as a bereavement specialist before qualifying as Family Therapist in 2018.
I have a depth of experience in working with schools, youth offending teams, youth workers, teachers, clinical and educational psychologists, psychiatrists, drama therapists, art therapists, play therapists, drugs and alcohol organisations across the United Kingdom.
I have my own private practice where I meet individuals and families in their own home, in nature and online. (There is an additional cost for travel time)
I currently also work part time for the NHS in a Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team. Prior to this role I worked in central Bristol as a Lead Family Therapist running a Family Therapy Clinic and Eating Disorders Clinic.
I previously worked for childhood bereavement charity Winston's Wish for 7 years - working with families nationally that had experienced the death of a family member however they had died. I also specialised in supporting families bereaved through homicide, suicide, and deaths within the armed forces community.
I have experience in offering systemic supervision and consultation to colleagues and systemic trainees.
I have delivered training nationally in my previous roles and in private practice I am able to deliver bespoke training to schools, organisations and sports teams.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a wide ranging experience of supporting young people and families where ADHD is present. I have personal and professional experience of helping individuals, families, schools and employers understand ADHD symptoms and skills to help improve situations and behaviour and thinking patterns. I am able to support young people and adults where they may need to fine tune their skills and abilities in managing focus, concentration, attention, prioritising, and organising as well as creating space to assist with the range of emotions that can exist through navigating neuro-normative spaces and structures. Most importantly, I help individuals to have their experiences validated and support them to be able to better articulate their needs to others to better access the most helpful learning, living and working environments.
I have supported families experiencing complex grief. I have supported many families who have been bereaved through unexpected and expected deaths, I have supported families bereaved through homicide, suicide and deaths within the armed forces community. I have a range of therapeutic skills and resources that I can help families of any age explore death and dying and consider how to live with grief.
I am able to work with families in all forms including separated families, Families that are struggling with particular challenges, families that are navigating changes of circumstances, families that are looking to strengthen relationships. I support families to create safe spaces in which to consider relationships and communication patterns. I help families consider their values, needs and beliefs, I work with families to help them explore and practice new ways to communicate.
I have worked within the field of mental health and wellbeing for over 20 years, initially as a youth worker and now as a family therapist. I have extensive experience in working with young people, adults and family members with a wide range of mental health conditions and diagnosis. Having worked within an inner city NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, running a family therapy clinic and eating disorders clinic has given me a wealth of experience to work with individuals and whole family systems where mental health support is needed.
Being a family therapist, I am genuinely interested in and fascinated about relationships of all kinds. I am particularly interested in supporting parents to learn about what it is they can do to support their parent - offspring relationships, especially through adversity. I create space for individuals to consider how they were parented, and what hopes and dreams of parenting they have had or want for the future. I have experience and expertise in working with a wide range of ages and stages of life, and aim to support parents to connect with themselves, their heritage and consider what family values they wish to take with them into the future.
