My Approach

As a registered psychotherapist and as a counselling psychologist, I provide safe, confidential and professional psychological therapy which aims to help you with emotional, social or psychological problems. I believe that in order for psychotherapy to be effective we have to engage in a collaborative process and so in the first session few sessions my focus will be exploring with you the challenges which would have contributed to you seeking therapy. As we go through this process, I will explain the way I may be able to help and work with you. In this first session we will also decide if we can work together.

Psychotherapy can be short or long term and in our first few sessions we will decide and start to formulate a plan of what may be appropriate for you depending on the depth and complexity of what you will be seeking therapy for. As the aim of psychotherapy is to help you to understand patterns of behavior which may be problematic for you, or make sense of your experiences, find better ways to cope, or to bring about changes in the way you think, feel, or behave, the sessions offer you the space to express your feelings and gain a deeper insight into your experiences. Through time we may also explore ways and difficulties you may have in relating to yourself and others, or things that may be affecting your emotional or mental well-being.

Couples Work
Apart from working with individuals, I also have experience of working with couples, and families who may be experiencing relationship or family difficulties. I also work with groups and different teams in workplace settings to help them resolve or work through any difficulties they may be experiencing.
My clinical practice is informed by integrating different psychological and psychotherapy theories and techniques and hence I consider myself a relational humanistic/integrative psychotherapist.

Supervision
I also work as a Supervisor for qualified psychotherapists and counsellors as well as for trainee therapists. Apart from being a registered psychotherapist, I am a senior lecturer and trainer in psychotherapy and counselling within a University settings. I have also written and contributed to a range of books and academic papers on psychotherapy and counselling.

I am happy to have an initial brief conversation with you over the phone before you book to meet me for an initial session
