My approach is humanistic and person focussed which considers the whole person not just the problem. My aim is to empower the individual to enable them to gain a better understanding of themselves and to feel more able to make positive changes toward well-being and long term psychological and emotional health. I am informed by a range of psychological models within both child and adult psychology and psychotherapy and trained specifically as an integrative arts psychotherapist working with both adults and children. In addition to using the more traditional talking therapy approach therefore, I use and actively encourage creativity and imagination in the work to communicate and understand the issues and to inspire deeper insight and change.
Over 30 years years of experience of working in a therapeutic, educational or supportive role with individuals with a range of needs and their families and 20 years specifically as a psychotherapist. I have extensive experience of working with individuals on the autistic spectrum and families and also 10 years working within the NHS as a specialist parent counsellor and with adolescents. I have also worked in a bereavement service, Employment support service, CAMHS services and currently part time in the NHS in a Primary Mental Health service providing short term therapy to individuals presenting a wide range of issues. I am also a qualified supervisor of counsellors, therapists and allied health professionals practitioners.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
