I don't have answers for life's problems, but I have a toolbox of questions, dialogues and exercises to help you find your own answers. My aim is to be non-judgmental, honest, and supportive.
We will start with a structured assessment and personal history-taking, and an in-depth discussion of the reasons you are seeking therapy. We will discuss and decide together on an initial focus and direction for the therapy, and review this as the therapy progresses. As I get to know you, I can ask the questions that help you know yourself better. I will seek to reflect back the qualities you can't see in yourself, and together we will tap into the unknown resources within you that can help you adapt to life.
Depending on your interests, aptitudes and challenges, the approach might be more or less structured. Some people benefit from discussion and insight, others from intuitive and creative exploration, still others from practical experimentation in life. We can inquire into your thoughts, your emotions, your dreams, and the wisdom of the body, which holds, expresses and responds to our thoughts and feelings.
By training and inclination, I am oriented toward an integrated approach inspired by the creative tension between the spiritual psychology of Carl Jung and others, and the atheist philosophy of thinkers like Sarte and Camus, brought into the practice of psychotherapy by practitioners like Yalom and Frankl. I like to think of psychotherapy as one current facet of the millennia-long search for meaning that is an integral part of the human story.

Life is hard, and sometimes it seems like it demands more of us than we can bear. This can happen in periods of life transition relating to personal life or career direction, because of unexpected events, or because of lifelong challenges. I work with people who want to understand more about themselves, find more within themselves, or just want to know themselves better.
In periods of uncertainty, we can waste a lot of time and energy spinning in circles. That energy can be used for better things. Contained and redirected, it enlivens a creative approach to life and growth. Life always has its problems, but as we grow, our problems seem smaller by comparison.
In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I am the Director of the DRI Centre for Dream Studies (driccpe.org.uk), and a supervisor to qualified and trainee therapists. I am also a lecturer on the Diploma and Research Masters courses at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (ccpe.org.uk).
