About Me

I am Claudia Vau, creative action-methods and systemic practitioner offering online and face-to-face services of Psychodrama Psychotherapy and Coaching.
Currently enrolled in the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust Systemic Programme, I have previously trained by the London Centre for Psychodrama and the School of Playback Theatre UK. My experience comprises: 10 years of regular Playback Theatre practice with therapeutic applications, such as recovery groups for women with Eating Disorders (ED); youth development-oriented group facilitation, using Sociodrama; group Psychodrama with different groups, from women in custody and women with learning disabilities, to rehabilitation clinic clients and members of an artistic community in East London; as well as individual Psychodrama with adolescents, parents, carers, school staff, critical workers, addicts, creative professionals, bereaved adults, and diverse online clients.
Currently, I am particularly keen on working with cross-culturally and transgenerationally with couples and families.
Feel free to reach out and ask me any questions, to get a better sense of how it might be for you to have therapy with me.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Please expect '0' judgement from me. Life and professional experience have shown me that it is important to treat the causes and understand the reasons why individuals develop addiction and compulsion-based coping mechanisms, rather than healthy, meaningful and sustainable human connections, self-care habits and life skills. The good news is that, it is never too late to develop all of these - I have seen over and over again, across the lifespan, for addicts who "had enough" of their addictions. I am always happy to bear witness and play a therapeutic part in someone's recovery journey. I integrate different addiction recovery models and psychotherapy approaches when working with addictive processes, addictive behaviours and addictions to substances, according to the profile, needs and circumstances of each client. Where necessary and possible, I like to liaise with healthcare professionals, wider support networks and the systems affected by addiction, to promote safety, insight and a good prospect of sustained recovery.
Retraining as a Systemic Family Therapist and constantly adding to my Couples Therapy "toolkit", I am keen on co-creating the taylor-made psychotherapy model that best serves each couple I work with (the Gottman Method and Narrative Attachment Therapy are some of the modalities I combine with Couples/ Dyadic Psychodrama Psychotherapy). I am particularly keen on working with multicultural and non-normative couples, and with partners struggling with negative communication patterns, attachment issues, child-rearing challenges, infidelity and lack of trust, pursuer-distancer dynamics, sex and intimacy difficulties, change and life cycle challenges, loss and abandonment wounds.
In private practice, I now mainly focus on the online practice of Psychodrama Psychotherapy (Group and Individual), Systemic Approaches and Action-oriented Coaching. Over the first COVID-19 lockdown in early 2020, I trained with international trainers and prepared specifically for online practice, in order to offer much needed remote support and therapeutic holding to those struggling in these pandemic times. Online therapy presumes willingness to build trust via the internet, which in turn requires clear, well negotiated boundaries, a private space and devices with reasonable confidentiality conditions, and a good safe internet connection. Apart from these new requirements and adaptions, having therapy online is steadily becoming the norm, with COVID-19 limiting face-to-face contact and travelling. You can now find the “right” therapeutic match for you without having to stick to the therapists that are available in you geographical region.
I find myself working with individuals, pairs, small systems and subsystems of individuals that seek help to navigate and change significant relationships and their patterns, which may have become stuck, dysfunctional or abusive. You are welcome to reach out at any relationship stage: to map or unpack your relationship history; as you start a new relationship or start over with a former partner; when you are in a relationship with ongoing issues; or in the aftermath of a break-up or loss. Relationship problems are more common than you might think, so give yourself permission to address yours in therapy, either on your own or with your significant other(s).
Making a mobile phone call regularly at a certain time, once or twice a week sometimes more frequently, sometimes less... How does this sound? The therapeutic relationship between good psychotherapist/ counsellor-client matches can be established, held and fulfilled with the help of different means of remote communication, which is particularly convenient in the current public health context. Talking to your therapist over the phone does not require you to travel for appointments; like in online therapy, if you choose to engage with therapy through your telephone of mobile you just to find yourself a safe, private, quiet space for the sessions and go through an initial assessment.
