I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy, a relational approach which pays attention to how our past has formed who we are now and influences our day-to-day experiences. This way of working allows feelings and thoughts to emerge and be explored together. Our work would reflect on how we relate to ourselves and others, using our growing therapeutic relationship as a resource for exploration and change.
Creating this kind of environment can help us to understand ourselves more fully. It can open up new perspectives, help us access inner resources and enlarge our narratives and beliefs about ourselves, the world and others. As we develop greater understanding we can experiment with living with more freedom, creativity and compassion, and deepen our connection to ourselves and others. I am happy to work short or longer term.
I am an experienced psychotherapist working in central Bristol, accredited by the UKCP and BACP. I trained within the NHS and have worked as a doctor, psychiatrist and psychotherapist in the NHS for over 20 years. My clinical training and experience in psychotherapy are predominantly psychodynamic and relational. I offer an attentive, gently curious space to facilitate exploration.
My training and experience allow me to work with a broad range of issues such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, overwhelm and burnout, managing challenging work contexts, low mood, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, loss of meaning, life transitions, challenges in parenthood and those wishing to explore and enrich their inner life and relationships.
Alongside my private psychotherapy practice, I currently work part-time in the NHS as a consultant psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy, predominantly training and developing doctors and supporting their well-being.
