About Me

Psychotherapy and counselling can address wide ranging issues. Very often what appears at the forefront of awareness is masking a hidden concern. Over time we create coping strategies that become a fixed way of being. When our circumstances change, these behavioural habits may no longer serve us but we are unable to recognise why we behave in this way, or to choose to behave differently. Counselling and psychotherapy can help reveal the underlying distress that gave birth to behavioural patterns and address it directly.

Most of us experience difficulties or challenges at some point in our lives and often we can traverse these times with help and support from family and friends. Sometimes we are able to just grit our teeth and wait until it passes or we come out the other side. Sometimes we learn from these experiences but sometimes we don't and we find ourselves in a similar situation again and again.
When we notice that we are repeating behaviour patterns that bring us pain or cause disharmony, this is the point at which we have a choice to continue or to address what is going on for us. Often, talking to family and friends no longer helps; they have their own ideas of what is wrong with us or what we should do. Talking to an independent and trained therapist offers the space to explore experiences without judgement and preconceived notions of who we are, how we live our lives. It is a safe place to examine thoughts, emotions, feelings in complete confidence.

As we come to know and understand ourselves better we begin to make better sense of our experiences and gain insight into why we are as we are. From this place we can make changes within ourselves.
My Therapeutic Approach: Foremost, my intention is to support you in bringing about positive changes in areas of your life where you feel compromised or unfulfilled, whether in your relationship with yourself or with others. Creating a better relationship with the self is a first step in healing relationships with others. This can involve getting in touch with and understanding feelings and experiences of which you may be unaware.

One size never fits all, so an integrative approach allows me to work with each person according to their individual needs and inclinations. I help you find ways of understanding yourself, make choices and develop your confidence in resolving difficulties, becoming more aligned with your life journey.
Every human life contains a potential, if that potential is not fulfilled then that life was wasted...Carl G. Jung
