My Approach

My person-centered relational style places a strong emphasis on providing my clients with a nonjudgmental, empathic relationship. Having continued my training in psychodynamic therapy, I am adept at considering the unconscious aspects of your presentation, such that we can progress beyond a logical understanding of your needs to an understanding that gets to the root of things. This approach has resulted in my assisting numerous clients with deeply rooted and persistent issues to understand themselves and discover the keys to their own inner peace.
Although I have worked with clients on a shorter-term basis and would do so again, signing up for longer-term work enables a much deeper understanding of oneself and consequently produces longer lasting results. I offer both in-person and virtual consultations on a weekly and biweekly basis.

About Me

As a UKCP-accredited and BPC-registered psychotherapist, I am qualified to provide psychotherapy and counselling to clients with a variety of requirements. I am also a UKCP accredited supervisor and have supervised trainee's and established psychotherapists working in a variety of clinical settings. Having worked in the Criminal Justice System, with men and women with criminal convictions, I have significant experience in working with trauma, violence/aggression, depression, personality disorders, and significant mental health issues. Additionally, I have worked in the Voluntary Sector and private practice, where I have treated patients with a variety of presenting issues, such as relationship issues, stress, anxiety, physical illness, and bereavement. I have a special interest with specific post qualification training in eating disorders, and have successfully treated patients to overcome such difficulties during my career.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a special interest in this area of work, and have had great success utilising a Psychodynamic approach to the presentation of eating disordered behaviours. Rather than focusing on the behaviours as the issue, I focus on understanding what the issues are in the mind, which are being represented in the behaviour. Working with the patient to develop a sense of meaning and interpretation which is relative to them, enables a more authentic and long lasting chance in behaviours to occur over time. I recommend twice weekly sessions for patients with deeply entrenched eating disordered behaviours, at least in the initial stages of treatment.
Including OCD in this category, I have extensive work supporting patients to develop an understanding of what lies behind their phobias, and to move to a place of more freedom and internal peace. Associated with this is significant interest and experience working to support patients with debilitating anxiety disorders.
I have a particular interest in providing supervision to trainee's and qualified professionals, working in a forensic setting, and those working in organisations such as the NHS.
