My Approach

My approach to psychotherapy has developed as a result of the many clients I have had the privilege of working with over the years. It is an Intercultural approach to encompass the many cultures, sharing the ideas, differences and values that intersect within society today.

About Me

Carl Barge is a Psychotherapist and has over fifteen years’ experience within the Substance Misuse field, working extensively within the UK Prison System, private practice and clinical agencies.

The promotion of psychological well-being is at the forefront of his practice. Providing students and clients an insight into the causes and effects of transgenerational mental health issues. This is often compounded by the health professions psychopathology of people of the global majority.

Carl is a Lecturer of Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regents University and Reaching Solutions Psychotherapy & Counselling Training. He received his BSc in Integrative Counselling at Roehampton University, PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University and Post-Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision from Derby University.
He is a registered member of the UKCP and registered member of the MBACP.

Today, Carl's purpose and passion lies with helping others self-actualize and achieve the new life they desire.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have experience of working with and helping individuals with addiction issues.
As mentioned above. It is important to acknowledge the transcultural influences that impact individuals today. I am sensitive to the lived experience helping client's to make sense of their unconscious processes, behaviours and the uncertainty certain beliefs can impact on the self and others.
I believe it is important to discuss issues of race in a safe environment. As a member of the Black and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN) these issues quite often intersect. An understanding of race, social structures, institutions, and the inherent challenges within can bring doubt. These concepts can be extremely sensitive so it is important to approach these with empathy and respect.
I offer individual and group supervision.
