My Approach

As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, I draw on a range of different psychotherapeutic models, to find the right way of working with you in each given moment. I also use a range of different art forms and know that, if you choose to, we can explore further into your feelings and emotions in a non-verbal, creative way.

I work with a range of issues including relational difficulties, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, anger, feeling stuck, and wanting to approach challenges in a new way. I am also skilled and experienced at working with people who are adopted and with adoptive parents.

About Me

Hello, my name is CJ and I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor, with a Master of Arts ( with distinction) in Creative Integrative Psychotherapy.

I offer a confidential, empathic and non-judgemental space to help you feel comfortable, and to experience being really listened to and heard, so you can deepen your self-awareness and self-understanding, and move towards making positive changes in your life.

I fully recognise and value the human need for connection to self and others. Many people who are struggling to find meaning in life can feel disconnected from themselves and others. This can negatively impact their ability to form meaningful relationships and attain personal goals.

In my experience, people can restore their connection to self and others through a safe therapeutic relationship in which they can begin to find renewed trust in themselves and in others, allowing them to make informed decisions and life choices and begin to live life in a way that is more satisfying and meaningful.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I provide specialised psychotherapy and counselling for adopted adults. This work focuses on exploring your identity, your attachment and relationship patterns, and the unique experiences of being adopted. My work in adoption services has given me deep insight into the complex emotions and challenges that adopted adults may face. Whether you're looking to make sense of your adoption story, process early experiences or explore your relationships, I provide a safe and supportive space for this important work.
Anxiety can be a debilitating experience, impacting both the small and the larger parts of everyday life in a myriad of different ways. Through my extensive experience, I can support you to find a calmer, safer and more settled way to be, and to understand and make sense of the underlying reasons for your anxiety, so you can learn ways to take back control of your feelings and emotions.
I have a background in nursing, in both mental and physical health. I therefore have an extensive knowledge of mental and physical ill health, and how this can impact every day life.
I have a wealth of experience of working with people who have had difficult early life events, including early/developmental trauma and relational trauma, and understand how this can set up patterns of behaviour or relationship difficulties which can affect responses to new or challenging situations, as well as to everyday ones. I can support you to explore and process these, in a safe way, to enable you to make positive changes to your way of relating, to both yourself and the other people in your life.
My wide ranging experience often focuses on the impact of experiencing difficulties in relationships, be they with oneself or with others - friends, family, colleagues etc. Through exploring the feelings these relationships bring up, we can make sense of the areas you are experiencing difficulty in, and develop new ways to relate, ways in which you have a voice and a choice, rather than responding to old patterns or triggers.
