I aim to create a safe and non-judgemental place where you can talk about what is troubling you. We bring mindfulness (awareness) to feelings, thoughts and physical sensations that come up in the present moment, and we look at how the past influences your present experience. Everything can be brought into the session and explored reflectively, at your own pace. Sometimes this exploration can involve images, movement, dreams, writing or drawing.
The process of sharing our experience with someone compassionate and non-judgemental and exploring it with mindfulness can help us become able to respond to our difficulties with more flexibility and kindness.
I offer a mindfulness-based psychotherapy (called Core Process Psychotherapy) which integrates Buddhist psychology with Western psychodynamic theory. I am also a qualified counsellor and am registered with BACP as well as with UKCP. I have volunteered with several counselling organisations in Cambridge and have experience of working with adults with a wide range of issues.
I have also worked for many years in educational publishing, specialising in language teaching materials. I have lived and worked outside the UK and continue to be fascinated by cultures and languages other than my own.
My meditation practice has been an essential support to me for most of my adult life, and I have also found meditative movement practices such as dance, chi gung and t’ai chi extremely helpful.
I offer a free initial consultation in which we can see if we are a good fit. If we decide to work together, we would meet for an hour each week, and in the sixth session we would have a review of how we’re doing.
