My approach is described as Relational Transactional Analysis. TA was developed in the USA in the 1950ies and 60ies as an approach similar to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as an alternative (or precursor) to psychoanalysis. It has since evolved into a very integrative model, which draws on psychoanalytic thought and includes CBT methodology, while placing the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the treatment.
I have worked as a psychotherapist and psychologist for almost 30 years and specialise in the treatment of trauma (both single incident, as well as developmental trauma) and all life transitions and existential crises. I have extensive experience in working with people with gender dysphoria.
I work relationally, which means that the therapeutic relationship is central to the work, and 'techniques' are secondary.
I do not work with manualised approaches, and tailor the direction of the treatment according to an individual's needs and requests. All work is agreed on in a collabirative way.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
