The Existential approach in therapy is based in philosophy. It is about the conversation between two people. We will seek to explore without assumptions or judgement the experience that you bring to the session and what happens within it. How can you be truly yourself as you deal attentively with what is happening for you, has happened, and the uncertainty to come? How might you find purpose and meaning for your life? How might you be less unsettled by anxiety or be more able to accept the sadness of loss? What is so troublesome in relationships with others? What inhibits your creativity and makes you feel “stuck”? Our dialogues may find new answers and ways to be.
I prefer to work longer-term with clients and there will not be a pre-determined agenda or plan as the destination or milestones of this journey cannot be fixed at the outset. Sometimes, learning to be without “homework” or a sense of task in the work can be part of the process.
I have interests and experience in identity issues, relationship problems, maternity and women’s health, experiences of anxiety, stress and conflict in the workplace, managing life changes, depression and mood variation, and the challenges of creatives and performers.
I am an Existential Psychotherapist, qualified with an MA (Distinction) and Postgraduate Certificate in Existential Psychotherapy, and practicing in Islington, North London and remotely. I offer you insight, challenge, and a compassionate presence in partnership with you on your journey to understand more deeply how it is for you to be in the world in which you find yourself, and what life change that awareness might bring. I am LGBTQIA+ informed and welcoming and I enjoy the privilege of working with people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences of life.
Coming to this profession later in life, I trained for five years at Regents University London, undertaking clinical placements in the charity sector. This training immersed me in the Psychoanalytic and Humanistic/Integrative traditions before I chose to specialise in Existential Psychotherapy with its basis in philosophy, phenomenology, and ethical discourse. I have worked in the professional services, arts, education and health sectors. My first degree was in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute, and I also trained as a performer.
