Systemic Family Therapy is a branch of Psychotherapy that promotes change and emotional growth through the shared exploration of troubling experiences, it helps find possible solutions to difficult situations. In life individuals, couples, and families can face many stresses, worries, and changes that can be hard to manage. When difficulties do not resolve naturally or when it feels like close relationships are suffering, Systemic Psychotherapy can help.
My name is Awawu Ajala, but I go by Ola; I am an experienced registered psychiatric nurse and an experienced systemic psychotherapist who has a passion for working with individuals, couples and families who are experiencing conflict, distress and complex relational issues. My approach is based on the idea that problems are often problems based on how we and those around us understand, make sense of and interact with the problems; therefore, I seek to help people use their expert knowledge of their lives to better understand, make sense and interact in a more helpful ways and create new possibilities to inspire hope.
I take a collaborative strengths-based approach to my work; I believe that the therapeutic relationship is paramount to a good outcome in therapy and so I aim to prioritise the therapeutic relationship by offering a safe, non-judgmental and transparent space to explore difficulties. I use a range of Systemic Psychotherapy models tailored to the needs of my clients. I have particular interest in working cross culturally; my experience working within inner London has afforded me great experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and I aim to connect with the cultural and social context relevant to the clients and their presenting difficulties.
I work with couples, parents, children, families, groups and individuals of diverse compositions across the life span. I have over 12 years’ experience working with various mental health services within the NHS such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, Psychosis services and Perinatal Mental Health services to name a few. I therefore have experience working with a vast range of mental health disorders/diagnosis; including depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, trauma, PTSD, and autistic spectrum disorders. I also have experience working with difficulties in the absence of diagnosis such as communication and conflict between couples and within families, emotional, behavioural, and relationship difficulties, parenting, and managing change.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to set up a phone call to find out if my approach might be a good fit for you/your family/your group. I offer an initial conversation where we can get to know each other and decide if we can begin to work together.
