My approach is collaborative. I work psychoanalytically, by which I mean that I listen actively and try to help you to understand yourself at a deeper level. I will start by offering you a time to speak on the phone in order to make contact and find out something about what you are looking for help with. If you want to go ahead I will arrange an initial consultation with you. The consultation usually takes two appointments, and is a space to think together about what you are looking for and whether I am the right therapist for you. If we agree to go ahead, I will then offer you sessions based on what appears to be the most helpful for you. This could be individual therapy or counselling, more intensive individual psychotherapy or it could be group therapy. Sometimes it can be helpful to meet one-to-one for a while before arranging a date to join a group.
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and a group analyst with over 20 years experience of working in private practice and NHS, I was a consultant psychotherapist in CNWL NHS Trust for 13 years, and also worked in GP practices as a practice counsellor, and in a NHS Crisis Intervention Service as a psychotherapist. I have been running my own private practice since I qualified at the BAP (now BPF) in 2000, where I offer individual therapy up to 4 times a week, and run two therapy groups, including a once weekly group and a twice weekly group. I am a Training Therapist at the BPF and a Training Group Analyst at the IGA and also offer couples therapy, supervision and reflective practice groups.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
