My Approach

Hi, thank you for looking at my profile, I hope the information provided gives you an idea of the way I work. You can also contact me via email or text to ask any question, with no obligation.

As far as theoretical modalities of psychotherapy, I work integratively. For example, I may use CBT to help clients find fast relief from anxiety and automatic negative thoughts; Phenomenological-Existential Therapy to explore personal values and making adaptive choices; psychodynamic and internal family systems therapy to provide a link to past experiences that might still be affecting the client in the present.
I believe that one approach does not fit all, and I tailor therapy according to the client's goals and preferences.

At present, my practice is mostly by videoconference. To ascertain if remote therapy is for you, I offer 15 mins trial video call free of charge. This call is helpful for perspective clients to get to know me and check how it feels to have therapy by video conference.

Simply send me a message via text or email and we can arrange a free 15 mins call with no obligation. I can provide therapy in both English and Italian. I also offer in person eco sessions in the summer in a park in the Fulham area of London.

About Me

My name is Anna, I am a psychotherapist with over 12 years’ experience and I a firm believer of the power of personal therapy. I aim to provide a strong therapeutic relationship where clients can process their feelings and decide how they want to move forward in their lives.

With a background in UK mental health services, I have a wealth of knowledge on the issues that can impact our wellbeing long-term.
Often clients come to therapy because they are stuck in a situation, blocked by their fears, or chained to a pattern of behaviour that is no longer adaptive. I believe that psychotherapy can provide the space and the time for clients to assess their present and be supported in shaping their future through conscious choices.

Besides my registration as a psychotherapist with the UKCP I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology and I have attended courses in human sexuality, leadership, family systems, CBT, and RAID (managing challenging behaviour). As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw from four therapeutic modalities to offer a first class, tailored approach to clients.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a vast experience with working with anxiety issues and its declinations including panic attacks, gad, phobias, social anxiety, fear of public speaking, continuous worrying to name but a few. My approach to anxiety follows an existential point of view which postulates that anxiety, in its original form, is present to support us. Therapy can help clients to listen to the message that the feeling of anxiety is bringing and if appropriate; to channel it into actions so that it either disappears or it finds a useful expression. My work is supported by CBT techniques that are evidence-based to treat anxiety related issues that I teach to clients as matter of course.
It is a fact that almost half marriages end up in divorce and I include long term partnerships in that statistic. Something less known is that is divorce is one of the biggest stressors in life. Therapy can be hugely helpful in managing the emotional toll that a separation brings, in all its phases. In my work with clients, I explore ideas like ‘conscious uncoupling’ and reflect on the best ways to keep the relationship healthy both during the break up and after the divorce has occurred. Therapy is also helpful when there are children between the couple and the client must be a co-parent after the relationship has broken down. I offer support and guidance as a therapist to individuals, not couples. However, couples’ therapy is complimentary to the kind of work I do with individuals when needed. I also offer guidance and support on the effect the separation has on children and best practices to maintain a healthy environment so that the whole family can thrive. I believe as a society we need to find better ways to deal with separation and divorce and I strive to be part of that change for clients that go through this difficult and often unavoidable path.
During my years working with clients affected by severe mental conditions I observed how clients who had a supportive network of people around them, were more resilient and were able to bounce back faster from a range of difficulties. It has now been demonstrated that meaningful relationships in our lives have an enormous positive impact on our health. I specialize in helping clients with all stages of forming and managing healthy relationships, being those we have with romantic partners, spouses, friends, ex-partners, work colleagues and family members; without forgetting the very crucial relationship with ourselves. I have a special interest in individuals who struggle to find and staying in a committed romantic relationship. To that end, I have conducted research at Middlesex university on the impact of psychotherapy on the ability to form healthy relationships.
My approach in therapy is one of openness to any belief system or religion that clients want to bring and explore, including rationalism, atheism, and agnosticism. I have been an agnostic for all my adult life, meaning that I used to believe that there may be something in the hereafter, but I could know for sure, nor could I know what that looked like. Until recently, when I experienced what is known in literature as a “spontaneous spiritual awakening”. Having had the privilege of going through such an experience, I am equipped to discuss any life issue using a spiritual lens. Many teachings from spirituality overlap with psychological and psychotherapeutic theories and the clients that have elected to make use of a spiritual perspective when reflecting on their life choices are finding it a beautiful addition that can bring great relief and even joy to areas that used to only bring sorrow and regret.
My first job as a therapist was in a busy NHS primary care service where I worked with a client group at high risk of moving form ideation to active ideation of committing suicide. Over the years in practice, I noticed that suicidal ideation, far from being niche, affects many people. The feedback I received from clients was that the successful outcome of therapy was not due to any techniques I had used. It was mostly about my communication of my belief that suicidal ideation is completely normal, common, and that we have all thought about it one time or another. This normalising of suicidal thoughts is only the starting point of a therapeutic exploration and alliance that I endeavour to foster with all clients. For clarity, I do not offer full confidentiality to any client. Meaning that I do break confidentiality in case I deem a client at risk of harming themselves or others. In addition, I ask all clients experiencing suicidal ideation to sign a ‘no suicide’ contract whilst in therapy with me. Finally, depression is often at the root of suicidal ideation. I conceptualise depression as a symptom of the person having departed from their authentic self. Therefore, any therapeutic work will often involve some exploration of concepts like ‘authenticity’, ‘people pleasing’ and the ‘false self’.
