My Approach

Relationships can impact our lives in many different ways. At the heart of systemic psychotherapy is a belief that building support and understanding, being able to appreciate each other’s needs and experiences and finding ways to have difficult conversations safely can not only allow for more meaningful relationships but can promote overall wellbeing and positive mental health. My role is to provide a non-judgemental and safe therapeutic space where you will able to explore ways in which to have different experiences within relationships. If you need help to improve your relationships then I could be a good fit for you.

The name of my practice, New Narratives Through Therapy, demonstrates how strongly I value the opportunity to help people to not only seek to understand the existing patterns within their relationships, but to be able to create ‘new narratives’ that allow for more satisfying, supportive and enjoyable connections with others, in couple or family relationships.

Working Together

During your initial sessions we will explore what has brought you to therapy and where you would like to see change in your life. Through supporting you to reflect on how past experiences have impacted your current experience of relationships, and considering the presenting challenges through different perspectives, I hope to be able to support you to find greater enjoyment and contentment in relationships.

About Me

I have over 15 years experience working with families in the public sector and I am currently employed in the NHS as a specialist family therapist, where I undertake therapy, provide consultations, offer reflective group supervision and deliver training. I am passionate about supporting families and couples to have positive and meaningful relationships.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

With a background as a social worker I have a particular interest in adoption and how it is a life long experience for adoptees and adoptive families. I understand the complexities within adoption and the various 'truths' that can exist at the same time, which can involve feelings of loss and grief, alongside feelings of belonging, hope and love. Within systemic family therapy, it is possible to safely explore such complexities so that relationships can be supported to be as authentic, positive and meaningful as possible.
I can provide therapy to couples who wish to create change within their relationship. This can include exploring how to connect in more meaningful ways, how to become more 'coordinated' in relation to hopes and expectations for the relationship or how to build greater understanding about the positions that members of a couple find themselves in. Such therapy can also be for couples who are looking to separate and would like to do so as thoughtfully as possible.
As a Systemic Family Psychotherapist I have worked with many different types of families to help support understanding and promote communication. I have been able to explore how different values, beliefs and experiences can impact on what is brought to relationships and how we respond to others. I am able to facilitate conversations that may feel challenging, in a way that enables each family member to feel heard and validated.
At the heart of Systemic Psychotherapy is a focus on relationships and what happens 'between' us. Into any relationship we bring past experiences and 'stories' about how things 'should' be, we bring our cultures, values and beliefs as well as our own hopes and expectations for the future. Within the therapy I offer, I am able to build understanding about these different elements and in particular, how they interact in our most meaningful relationships.
