I am an existential psychotherapist with a strong interest in contemporary psychoanalysis. I enjoy working with any issue you bring whilst holding an awareness of the wider field of your life - in particular the traumas and relationship patterns that can get carried down the generations in a family. I am also interested in the way we carry past trauma, stresses of life, and anxiety in our bodies.
I have experience in issues such as anxiety, OCD, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief, loneliness, depression, sexuality and sexual issues, anger, stress, trauma and abuse. I work relationally which means I encourage reflection on how you and I interact in the therapeutic relationship with one another and how this can put into relief how you relate outside of therapy.
I am a warm, patient, and compassionate therapist with a strong belief in the importance of feeling heard and in shedding light on the thoughts and feelings you may have struggled to confront or even articulate . You may feel empty, stuck, lost, lonely and the 'Is this it?' unsatisfied feeling may becoming louder This feeling we sometimes get which we cannot always name - a dissatisfaction, a numbness, a lack of joy and ease in our day-to-day living and just not really being present in our own lives is often telling us something which requires exploration. I believe existential psychotherapy can offer the space for this exploration and a hope that it helps us to take the courageous steps to move forward towards a life that feels more us, more authentic.
After a career in law I made the decision to pursue a life-long interest in psychotherapy and philosophy. My advanced training in existential psychotherapy complements my integrative approach. I believe that many of our struggles can be seen as problems of living, of relating with our others, of living with uncertainty and anxiety - in short, our simply being fallible human beings. Committing to the process of therapy can often elicit positive shifts in wellbeing and help you to gain insight into yourself, your experiences and can afford you an opportunity to process feeling - allowing you to get to know yourself and who you are and how you want to 'be'.
Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.
