My Approach

Psychoanalytic (and psychodynamic) psychotherapy aims to go deep into your emotions, with the aim of gradually removing distress. This type of therapy is evidence-based, thorough and comprehensive – there is an inherent understanding that everyone’s lives are different, and so therapy is tailored to the individual.

About Me

My name is Dr Ana Mootoosamy and my goal is to provide you with a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space in which you can open up and really talk about what's on your mind. With the help of therapy, we can work through the distressing and overwhelming feelings of depression, trauma, anxiety, worry, stress, and any other difficulties you might be experiencing.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Emotional, physical and sexual abuse leave lasting scars in our minds and bodies, and impact us in ways that we may not realise. With the help of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, we can delve deep into all the ways in which we have been affected by the abuse - our relationships, our work lives, how safe we feel in the world - and gradually relieve the distress.
Anxiety lies within the 'normal' range of human emotions - but can become very upsetting when we feel we are constantly having anxious thoughts. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can help in understanding the nature of these anxious thoughts so they become less powerful, so they don't dominate our lives anymore.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is supported by clinical evidence to help people who suffer from depression. It is proven to help provide relief from the symptoms of depression, and to help improve mood.
Whether it is complex PTSD due to childhood events, or adult PTSD due to a terrifying incident that we have endured, psychoanalytic psychotherapy provides a setting in which life can become more bearable. We can move away from the ways in which we may feel haunted by what we have been through and look forward to a life that offers hope for the future.
