Psychotherapy and Counselling with Amerjit Mann:
I believe a strong therapeutic alliance can lead to real change. I care about the relationships I establish with the people who come to see me in therapy. It takes courage for you to open up to someone you don’t know and so building trust and rapport is the foundation on which our work is built.
My approach to therapy is built on Integrative Psychology, which is based on the belief that no single model of therapy will be suitable for every client.
What this means for you is that your therapy will be tailored specifically to your individual needs. You may know exactly what kind of psychotherapy you require, but if you are unsure I have briefly outlined the approaches I work with below.
Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy with Amerjit
Humanistic psychotherapy focuses on how psychological distress is caused and healed in relationship. Together we will explore your current and past relational experiences, patterns and dynamics, including the relationship you have about yourself and how these relationships are affecting you from moving forward.
We will work together to identify patterns, gently question existing assumptions, and hopefully learn something about how you are carrying yourself through the world and interacting with others, which can then lead to meaningful change. Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy can be an effective way of addressing many emotional challenges ranging from general emotional reactions to different life events. This approach works with issues from both the past and the present and is suitable for both long and short term work.
Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy with Amerjit
CBT is an effective short-term structured therapy that focuses on issues affecting you in the here and now. CBT explores how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviour, and teaches you coping strategies for dealing with different problems. The length of therapy is usually between six and twenty sessions; however, this depends on the severity and the problem you need help with.
CBT is effective for Depression, Health Anxiety, Panic, Social Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, General Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Low Self Esteem, Stress Management and Phobias.
I have a keen interest in OCD as I was affected by the condition during my adolescent years. Different types of OCD include:
Contamination
Ordering & Symmetry
Superstition
Checking
Obsessional Thoughts (Aggressive or Sexual)
Hoarding

I adhere strictly to the UKCP & BABCP’s Code of Ethics, and receive regular supervision with supervisors also regulated by both accrediting bodies.
Clinical Experience:
As well as working in private practice, I currently work within the East London NHS Foundation Trust in a primary care service as an Integrative Psychotherapist. Prior to this, I have provided Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy in a number of NHS services nationally.
I spent four years at The Rape & Sexual Violence Project as a Counsellor and Group Facilitator working with male and female survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence. I spent an additional two years voluntarily at St Martins Centre for Health & Healing as a psychotherapist working with couples and individuals.
I also have over 10 years of mental health experience, where I managed a small team and over 100 service users with mild to complex mental health conditions across Birmingham in primary and secondary services.
Before I entered the world of psychotherapy, I was a professional ballet and contemporary dancer, where I trained at a specialist conservatoire for dance in Leeds. One of the most common questions people ask me is about the transition from being a dancer to becoming a psychotherapist. Interestingly there is a large amount of overlap between psychotherapy and dance, in particular non-verbal language and communication. So I am very mindful when working through my clients’ experiences about their awareness and relationship to how their experiences manifest in their non-verbal and verbal communication.
Don’t worry … I promise pirouettes are not required in therapy.
I am a qualified and accredited Psychotherapist & Counsellor with considerable experience providing psychological therapies to individuals and couples.
Whether it’s a breakdown of a relationship, experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression, or just struggling to cope from day to day, the situations and events of our lives can take a toll on us emotionally. During these times we may feel stuck, unable to find a way out and struggle to find a way forward.
I offer a psychologically safe, confidential, empathic environment, providing objective, non-judgemental guidance, helping you achieve your desired goals.
