My passion for working with children and young people throughout my career stems from a desire to understand more about children’s experience of their worlds, with a view to advocating for the child’s perspective in matters which affect them. I specialise in using play and creative methods with children and my practice integrates therapy and puppetry.
I am Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist and therapeutic puppeteer based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My orientation as a therapist is integrative, humanistic and relational.
My practice with children centres around the foundational role of play in a child's development and the importance of relationships in shaping personality, regulating emotion and supporting a child’s emerging sense of self.
I have extensive experience of using therapeutic play in hospital settings and have worked as a therapist in a primary school for five years with children (including those diagnosed with complex needs) from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds. Much of my clinical practice has been with care experienced children and young people, working the impact of trauma and adverse childhood experiences. My background is in the arts / theatre / puppetry prior to qualifying as a Child Psychotherapist in 2018.
