My Approach

Taking the first step towards finding support can be hard. Feel free to contact me for more information about how I work. My approach is integrative which means I link together a variety of therapeutic approaches to suit your needs. I combine my knowledge of psychoanalytic theory and humanistic theories to find the best approach for you. I offer a non-judgmental, safe space in which to think together about your difficulties and to find new ways to understand and engage with them. I offer both counselling; which uses a short term solution focussed approach, and longer term psychotherapy; which is more in depth around relational patterns and past experiences. I am also happy to explore existential questions around stages of life, purpose, freedom and meaning.

About Me

I work in private practice and an NHS IAPT service alongside running Bereavement Training for Mind in North London. I've also experience of working in NHS Art Therapies with a variety of mental health problems including anxiety, depression, addiction-related issues, PD presentations and suicidal thoughts. I am experienced in short-term counselling interventions and longer-term therapeutic work, both in-person and online.

I also have experience running open art therapy groups at a Recovery College and can facilitate workshops, having taught for many years. Previous training at Tavistock Relationships gives me an understanding of contributing factors in couple counselling although I do not at present offer couple counselling. I have training in how intergenerational trauma and attachment issues influence relationships.

I have an interest in writing and research and have co-authored a paper on 'lived experience research into mentalization-based art psychotherapy' as part of the IAPT Horizons Research Project, published in IJAT. I currently work online only in my private practice and face to face in my IAPT work.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have a particular interested in the relationship between bereavement, attachment and depression. I have worked as a counsellor for a Mind Covid Bereavement service where I run training on the impact on Covid 19 on the process of grieving.
I am currently teaching Advanced Psychodynamic Clinical Skills
My work is rooted in a trauma informed approach which puts an emphasis on how trauma is held in the body and views safety and relational connection as an essential basis for healing.
