About Family/Couples Therapy
Most people experience challenges at some point (s) in their lives . If you’re no longer sure what to do for the best, if it feels like close relationships are suffering or seem stuck in patterns of hurtful or harmful behaviour, Family/Couple Therapy can help.
Family/Couples therapy can help whether you are considering therapy for yourself, you and your partner or your family group ( children, parents or others who are important in your life).
When we get stuck in unhelpful patterns of relating ( either as a couple, parents or children) we lose connection with those close to us, we lose sense of being safe or loved and cared for. This has been shown to have huge negative impact on our emotional and mental wellbeing.
I help those in close relationships to understand and support each other better. Therapeutic space creates an environment where everyone feels safe to talk about difficult thoughts and feelings, is willing to understand each other’s views/experiences and appreciates each other’s needs. This helps to build on strengths and facilitates desirable changes.
In my work I aim not to take sides, blame, or provide simple ‘one size fits all’ answers. I aim to engage people in sharing understandings and views with each other and exploring ways forward that work for them.
Meetings usually last 60/75 min and it’s important that everyone have a chance to contribute to discussions if they wish.
I adapt my ways of working according to everyone’s ages, needs, resources and preferences. Sessions involving children, for example, often include play and drawing. Some people may wish to talk together from the start of therapy sessions, while others may prefer some individual time before deciding if, what and how to share their thoughts and feelings with others. I will discuss with you (usually at the first session) how you would like to work together.
I offer free 20 min telephone consultation if you like to discuss if Family/Couple Therapy is the right approach for you.
