My Approach

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy

About Me

I am Psychodynamic Psychotherapist working in private practice. I also have over 20 years experience working in the NHS, where I am currently employed part time as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy.

At the Downs Psychotherapy, I specialise in individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. This is an explorative psychotherapy that can help people to understand their underlying thoughts, feelings and relationship patterns. These patterns develop from life experiences, and unconscious processes. Psychodynamic work helps to make sense of current difficulties through reflective, collaborative conversations in the context of a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship.

I work with those suffering from a broad range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, loss and bereavement, complex life transitions, stress and burnout. I understand that traumatic life experiences can have a significant impact on the present. Psychotherapy can help relieve emotional pain and increase self-awareness and insight, leading to an improvement in personal and professional relationships.

My qualifications are:
BSc Psychology (Cardiff University, 2003)
MBBCh (Wales College of Medicine, 2005)
MSc Psychiatry (Cardiff University, 2012)
MSc Psychological Therapies Practice and Research Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic (University of Exeter, 2020)

I have been registered with UKCP since 2022.
I completed my training as a Psychiatrist specialising in Medical Psychotherapy in 2022 (Royal College of Psychiatrists) and I am on the GMC specialist register.

Alongside Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, I am trained in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), and I have experience delivering Narrative Therapy and Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT).

In my private practice I work with individuals and offer short, medium and long term psychotherapy.
