My psychotherapy career: Working to influence change on prescribed drug dependence

How can you balance voluntary work with private practice?

Working to influence policy on prescribed drug dependence, UKCP psychotherapist Anne Guy shares her time between sitting on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Prescribed Drug Dependence and on an NHS advisory group, working enact change.

In this episode, she talks about the balance between her voluntary work and private practice, and offers advice to those seeking to influence change.

‘Perhaps, understandably, as I’ve done more in the field of prescribed drug dependence and psychiatric drug withdrawal, I’m getting more people approaching me for support, whilst withdrawing. So, I’m having to consider how much of my private practice I give over to people going through withdrawal because it’s a different kind of work.'
