UPCA was founded in 1993 as the Universities Psychotherapy Association (UPA) with the object of furthering the development of psychotherapy training. Since then the objectives and organisation of the association have evolved to encompass a greater focus on protecting the public in addition to its original aims.
In order to gain entry to the UKCP Register via UPCA you are required to have graduated from a UPCA Approved Course and met all the practice requirements.
UPCA previously had a process of assessing equivalence of non-UPCA approved university training programs that led to UKCP Registration, this however was suspended by the UPCA Council in 2020.
The only means to UPCA membership and subsequently to UKCP Registration currently, is to enrol and successfully complete a UPCA approved training course, details of these are available on our website at: https://www.upca.org.uk/approved-courses/
