The objects of GPTI are:
a) To relieve suffering from mental emotional or physical illness or distress by encouraging and extending the practice of gestalt psychotherapy in the United Kingdom, particularly within established helping professions and agencies;
b) To set and uphold high standards of gestalt psychotherapeutic practice in the United Kingdom by providing opportunities for post-qualification training for those who do assimilate gestalt's philosophy and methods into their working practice and their personal lives; by providing supervision and peer support for those practising as gestalt psychotherapists; by carrying out examinations leading to the award of a diploma in gestalt psychotherapy and by providing procedures for qualifying gestalt psychotherapists as trainers and supervisors;
c) To advance education by fostering interest and research in the further development of the theoretical and practical applications of the gestalt approach to psychotherapy, teaching, organisational consultation, and personal development and by publishing the results of such research in the British Gestalt Journal and other similar publications;
d) To uphold the highest standards of psychotherapeutic practice, both in competence and professional ethics.
