About

Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre offers a generic body psychotherapy training, short courses, Continuing Professional Development, and individual body psychotherapy. We have been in existence since 1989.

Our body psychotherapy training is rooted in a contemplative perspective and brings together leading theory and practices from across the field of body psychotherapy, and is informed by contemporary neuroscience (e.g. trauma studies, polyvagal theory) and attachment theories. Our work attends especially to the unspoken, non-verbal aspects of people as well as to what they are expressing in words. Body awareness and mindfulness are key components for tracking subjective experiences. We also include a variety of methods (movement, touch, biodynamic massage, drawing, gestalt, visualisation) for exploring relationships. The training is best suited to those with a sense of vocation in tandem with wanting to gain a qualification.

We also accept those already qualified through a process of Accreditation of Prior Learning who want to develop their interest in working with a whole person, body/mind approach.

The training is clustered around weekends making it nationally accessible. Details of local accommodation are available on request.

We are actively engaged in the wider field of body psychotherapy. Our members are engaged in research e.g. Affective Touch and regularly contribute to academic journals e.g. The International Journal of Body, Movement and Dance in Psychotherapy. A major course textbook is "Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication in Psychotherapy," Gill Westland (Norton, 2015).

As well as being a member of UKCP, CBPC is a member of the European Association of Body Psychotherapy.
