After balancing considerations around rising costs for UKCP and the effect of the current economic climate on members, the UKCP Board of Trustees have decided upon a small increase of 2% for full clinical members. This aligns with the current inflation rate and reflects UKCP’s commitment to keeping fees as low as possible while maintaining and growing services provided to members. It also allows investment to take place in UKCP’s foundations through a new three-year strategy, ensuring sustainability for the organisation into the future.

Over the past year we’ve experienced a significant rise in UKCP’s professional liability insurance, with a substantial 2,900% increase, alongside other cost rises such as those necessary to maintain our Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accreditation. We have worked hard to absorb these costs and not pass them on to ensure continued value for money for our members. We’ve also focused on cost-saving measures, such as our recent office move, which is projected to save us around £150,000 annually. This action has ensured that the annual fees for full clinical members who pay by direct debit will remain under £300. And, for those who complete tax returns, remember that your UKCP membership fee is tax deductible – UKCP is on HMRC’s list of approved learned societies and professional organisations under P.

What your fees are used for

Your fees are crucial to UKCP and are used in several ways:

  • Upholding high standards: Our PSA accredited registers are a hallmark of quality and trust, assuring the public of the competence and professionalism of our members. Maintaining this accreditation involves rigorous process, regular audits and regular re-accreditation of our members to ensure they meet and exceed the expectations of ethical and professional practice.
  • Member services: We continue to invest in services to support our members including our campaign work, media presence, keeping members updated through regular emails, the development of key partnerships, our events and the publication of our New Psychotherapist membership magazine.
  • Planning for the future: Looking ahead, we are currently developing a new three-year strategy that will guide UKCP into the future. The strategy is focused on sustainability, growth and innovation to ensure we remain the leading body for psychotherapy. We hope you've found opportunities to contribute to our engagement activities which will help inform its development and we're excited to collaborate with all members to bring it to implement it.

We appreciate that any cost increases for our members can be difficult and the decision wasn’t taken lightly. Our aim is to continue to provide value for money while upholding high standards and ensuring UKCP long-term sustainability for the future and I would like to thank you for your understanding.
