Pathways to full clinical membership

Your UKCP registration and membership eligibility are based on meeting the high professional standards in our Standards of Education and Training and the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The Professional Standards Authority accredits our register.

Requirements:

To become a full clinical member of UKCP, you must:

  • apply through one of our organisational members (or previously have been registered via one, if moving to direct membership)
  • currently be in practice
  • have completed and graduated from a UKCP accredited course
or have been accredited based on your prior learning/experience by one of our organisational members

If you have previously trained/studied at a non-UKCP accredited organisation, you can apply to be accredited by a UKCP Organisational Member. They will assess your prior experience against the learning outcomes of their own course(s), as well as the Standards of Education and Training for your modality. They may be able to accredit you based on this prior experience, or you may be able to join one of their courses at an appropriate point to ensure that you can meet the requirements upon completion.

Organisational members will make their decisions regarding both your application to their UKCP accredited courses and your eligibility for UKCP registration based on your learning and prior experience. They may approve your UKCP registration if you have demonstrably met the relevant Standards of Education and Training, including in aspects such as (but not limited to) level of study, hours of supervision, length of study and hours of client or patient practice. You will need to demonstrate that you uphold the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice and are held in Good Standing.

Each organisational member is responsible for administering their application and registration processes and assessing your suitability for our register (and their training). Individual OMs will publish the relevant policies regarding registration, and these decisions will be based on the principles detailed on this page.

Any appeals regarding your application to join should first be directed to the organisational member. Once you have reached the end of the complaints and appeals process with the Organisational Member, you may lodge a complaint with UKCP. We may investigate to ensure that the OM has followed its procedures and has assessed your application fairly.

For those who have previously registered via an organisational member, direct membership to UKCP is available. To find out how to gain direct membership, contact our membership team at membership@ukcp.org.uk.
