My Approach

As children, we learn about the world through our bodies and our senses. As adults in the post-industrial west, we can easily lose contact with the innate wisdom of our bodies, overriding the messages the body is trying to send us in order to meet deadlines, be productive, become or stay successful. As a survival strategy, we may try to comfort ourselves by binging on food, drugs or alcohol, or by fasting to give ourselves a sense of control. Before we know it, our body, which would ordinarily be our best friend, has become an enemy.

In my practice as a psychotherapist, I pay close attention to the wisdom of the body and the messages it is seeking to convey. I use simple movement work and mindful breathing techniques to help allay patterns of anxiety and stress. I also work with dreams and with family and ancestral patterning. No two clients are the same, so the way we work together is a bespoke and collaborative relational process to assist you in bringing a deeper sense of meaning and joy to your life.

About Me

Do you need support in finding your way to a more fulfilling life? The demands of everyday living and the impact of major societal and individual changes can leave us with little time to reflect and to ask important questions, such as:

'How do I really want to spend the next years of my life and how do I make that happen?'
'How can I better express myself in my personal and professional relationships?'
'How can I make sense of my anger, pain, grief?'

Psychotherapy can enable you to look more closely into your life experiences and to gain insights into the thoughts and feelings that govern your behaviour, your relationships with others and your relationship with yourself. It can be a particularly valuable resource in times of stress, change or personal loss.

As someone who has travelled extensively and lived overseas, I have a particular interest in intercultural relationships. The mother of three adult children, I also work with the issues that can arise when juggling professional responsibilities with the demands of family life. I also have a longterm interest in support for those who have been bereaved or affected by life-changing illness. My practice is based in Bath. I work with people in other parts of the UK and overseas via Zoom.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I suffered from anorexia as a young woman and bring first-hand experience of the suffering this can cause.
Bereavement can affect us in ways for which it is nearly impossible to foresee. It is a privilege for me to support individuals who are coming to terms with the profound changes and sense of loss that attend the death of a loved one, however young or old that loved one may be.
The challenge of sustaining and supporting each other in relationship is always a work in progress. I support couples who are seeking to find new ways to meet each other at a deeper level and to better understand and respect each other as they navigate the ups and downs of life.
Our close relationships are often the most precious resources we have. There are numerous ways in which these relationships can be enriched by gaining a deeper understanding of our relationship with our inner selves. This can lead us to a fuller understanding of our partner, parents or children and to a happier dynamic in our daily lives.
A sense of the sacred informs my approach to life and supporting those who wish to understand more about this aspect of their nature and to find ways of expressing it is an important strand of my practice.
