My Approach

My approach is broadly constructivist- this means that I believe that our lived experiences and our perceptions of the world around us are constantly influencing and reinforcing each other. But this also enables us to heal and grow, because changing our understanding and perceptions - which happens naturally through life as well as through therapeutic intervention- can change the emotions and feelings related to the memories of our experiences. This means that troubling feelings, memories, beliefs and behaviours are open to healing, repair and renewal, and that we don’t need to continue feeling stuck or living with symptomatic emotional pain. I am trained in many methods that provide ways to achieve this change, and most of them are relatively brief. Psychotherapy with me is transparent, pragmatic, collaborative and tailored to each person and their objectives. Ultimately, the optimal solutions are different for every person so there is no “right answer” other than the best answer for you.

About Me

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Abuse can take many forms, such as physical, emotional, financial, work-related and sexual. It can affect anyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or class. From my earliest days of clinical practice I have taken a deep interest in helping clients to resolve the traumatic impact of abuse, whether recent or historical, overnight or over many years, and whether explicit or
PTSD can happen to anyone who has experienced overwhelming pressure, whether sudden or protracted. Avoiding everyday triggers that can reactivate symptoms can lead to further mental health struggles if left untreated. There are several safe, effective therapeutic treatments that don't require repeated re-exposure to terrifying experiences. I have treated many clients successfully for this condition over the years.
I have been supervising coaches, counsellors and psychotherapists since 2012 when I gained certification through NCHP. My accreditation was with NLPtCA and I have since completed an MA in Jungian and Post-Jungian studies at the University of Essex. Mainly, I support outcome-oriented and constructivist approaches within COOHP and CEC and balance my brief-therapy orientation with Jungian analytical thought to lend depth and perspective to my own work, and supervisees are very welcome to experience this exciting blend of old and new approaches.
A long career in the City, from early adulthood to senior management, has provided me with a good understanding of the pleasures, pressures and occasional abuses of working life. My MBA included studying communication and relationship dynamics within organisations, and a strong awareness of healthy and unhealthy management practices. I can offer support whether you need to deal with a work-related issue, want some fresh skills or self-development, or are seeking to recover resilience and confidence after a setback affecting your work.
