About Me

I am an intregrative psychosynthesis / transpersonal therapist with over a decade's experience of working with a broad range of issues and people from different backgrounds. I hold clinical lead posts in an NHS bereavement service and (previously, for 6 years) in a not-for-profit counselling organisation as well as working privately in north-east London. My aim is to work with you not only to come to terms with past and present suffering but to deepen and enrich your creative engagement with your future life.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I work to a model that suggests that when we are unable (for external or internal reasons) to express our true feelings openly, anxiety is a common result. The specific form this takes will of course be personal, and we can find ways to release anxiety and other buried feelings according to your own needs and life experience.
I have extensive experience in bereavement work, both in working directly with bereaved people and training/supervising counsellors to do the same. Whether our relation with the person who has died was close and loving or more complex and problematic, bereavement can upend our life, challenge our certainties, confuse our sense of who we are and what sort of life we want to live, and release powerful and often unexpected feelings that make it hard to continue as we were. This is both a natural process and can be one of the most painful experiences we will have to suffer. I will try to help you not just survive this but help you find new meaning after a loss that will always be with you.
For longer or shorter periods of our life, we may experience low moods, confusion or distress for reasons that may not be immediately clear but which often relate to our having outgrown or not yet discovered a personal identity which gives meaning to this stage of our life. We can look at this together and seek the sense of purpose which will carry you forward.
We are unavoidably shaped by our earliest experiences, including how we are treated by our parents and caregivers. Some of us suffer what can clearly be recognised as emotional, physical or sexual abuse, but for others there may nonetheless be shortfalls in care from well-meaning parents which can be harder to identify but nevertheless have serious and long-lasting effects on our personal development. We can work together to understand and where you wish to change these learnt characteristics to enable you to live more of the life you seek.
In its broadest sense, spirituality refers to our sense of connection to the world and the cosmos beyond us. It may be expressed through an organised religion or feel a more personal matter, and as a living part of our relations to what lies beyond us will often suffer growing pains as we struggle to find personal meaning or manage the fears and anxiety of living on a wounded planet. I have worked with people from many religious and spiritual backgrounds (or none) to explore these issues and find meaningful ways to live in a larger context.
