My Approach

When life feels challenging, daunting or unfulfilling, it’s usually a result of trauma, difficult life events or relational issues. This can make you feel anxious, depressed and not quite yourself.

Trauma sounds scary, but it isn’t always what you think it is.
Sometimes trauma is the result of a big, dramatic event in your life. Sometimes, it’s an accumulation of difficult everyday events.
You might feel a bit alone, disconnected or misunderstood, and you probably picked up some negative thoughts and habits as a way to cope.

You can overcome this. You can work through the coping mechanisms that no longer work for you. You can feel lighter and more at ease in life. You can fully believe and feel that you are good enough.

I know because I’ve seen it happen many, many times — and now, I’d love to help you get there too.

What if you’re successful? What if you live a good life? What if you’re in a good relationship? Doesn’t all this mean that you’re doing great on your own?

People find different ways to cope with trauma, and difficult life experiences. Many of my clients live good lives, but don’t feel the way they know they could. There’s an emotional discrepancy between their external and their internal world, and they don’t fully know the reasons why.

If this discrepancy isn’t addressed, it may result in panic attacks, anxiety, depression, addiction, declining quality of relationships and more.

Your feelings matter. If you feel like something is off, we can address this together. Let go of the “should’s” and let’s uncover what’s really preventing you from living a full and content life.

I can’t predict the future, but I would like to tell you a bit about the changes I’ve noticed in my clients over the years. After about a year-long commitment to therapy, they feel:

• Empowered to take charge of their lives
• Clearer on who they are and what they want
• More committed to positive relationships
• Brave enough to change or end negative relationships
• More fulfilled and happier for no specific reason
• “As if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”

About Me

My name is Maja and I became a therapist because I want to empower more people to raise above trauma and difficult life experiences, understand the roots of their difficulties or insecurities and overcome them.

I work with

  • Individuals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety is a stress response; it alerts you to the possibility of danger, think of it as a fire alarm going off, so that makes anxiety useful, right? Well, it can be useful, in that it signals to you that something isn’t quite right. But anxiety can take over, leaving you feeling on alert even when there is no actual danger present. So what causes anxiety, what is that ‘something not quite right’ signal? Anxiety can be caused by many different things; work stress, financial hardship, health issues, difficulties in your personal relationships, for instance family disputes, tension in your friendships or romantic relationship. Anxiety can also be a trauma response; there may have been a time in your past when you didn’t feel safe, that unsafe feeling state can stay with you for many years, and this may be the cause of you feeling anxious in your everyday life. There isn’t a one size fits all when it comes to managing anxiety. Symptoms and causation remain complex. You may want to try some grounding and distraction techniques. Meditation, mindfulness, yoga, physical exercise and self-care activities may help you feel less anxious, and should you need further support, contact a qualified therapist who can help you with anxiety.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful therapeutic treatment for those suffering from difficult life experiences and distressing memories. EMDR is a highly effective therapy for trauma, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, loss and grief to name a few. For complex PTSD and childhood trauma, EMDR may be used in combination with talking therapy. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends EMDR therapy for PTSD. How Does EMDR Work? You will be asked to hold a specific memory in mind while experiencing bilateral stimulation. This is typically in the form of eye movement, which mimics REM sleep. During Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep our minds process and integrates our experiences and emotions. During EMDR treatment you will remain fully awake and present, enabling you to process and heal from distressing life experiences in a safe therapeutic space. As a memory is processed, you will notice that your emotional response to the memory gradually becomes less distressing. In fact, once a memory is fully processed, your distress may be completely neutralised. EMDR does not change your memory, but rather your emotional response to the event is transformed and healed.
Benefits of Online Therapy: Geography is no longer a consideration; you can speak with your therapist from anywhere, providing you have internet access. You save precious travelling-time. Additionally, you could save on travel and parking costs. You get the full benefits of therapy from the convenience of your home. Many people find it easier to open up and speak more freely in online sessions compared with in-person therapy. Some like the anonymity of working with a non-local therapist, as this significantly reduces the likelihood of chance encounters in your local community. Limited mobility and physical accessibility are no longer potential blocks for working with the right therapist for you and your needs.
Online Supervision. Supervision provides a safe and confidential environment where therapists can explore and reflect on their client work at a deep level. Psychodynamic supervision transcends theoretical understanding. It is a process that delves into therapists' own reactions to client material, examining defense mechanisms, transference, and countertransference dynamics. Continuous supervision fosters learning and insight into the intricate psychological processes of therapeutic practice. This reflective aspect strives to bring about the most suitable treatment and changes for clients. Supervision also helps counsellors and therapists effectively manage their caseloads and potential risks that may emerge. Why Work With Me? My name is Maja, a highly trained therapist working exclusively online. I am BACP registered, UKCP accredited, and EMDR trained. Over the years, extensive experience has been gained both in private practice and clinical settings. The supervision fee is £50 per bi-weekly supervision session. Sessions take place exclusively online using Zoom. Get in touch to see if we can work together to support and enhance your therapeutic practice.
