My Approach

Holistic, Jungian, psychodynamic, transpersonal, humanistic, dream work, body work and creative visualisations.

About Me

I am in my 18th year of practice as a therapist and counsellor, and am a mature person with a great deal of diverse life experience. My approach is holistic and person-centred, which means offering a sympathetic and supportive space in which to explore any emotional and psychological difficulties you may facing in your personal life, work and relationships, and providing the safety to get deeply in touch with your feelings, both conscious and unconsciously trapped in the body, over any past or recent traumas. Together we will explore your options, and clarify your goals. I utilise a combination of solution focused therapy for short term work, and psycho-dynamic therapy for a deeper investigation into how your past may be impacting on the present I see both individuals and couples of all ages and religious and sexual orientations. Please see my website for much more detail.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Many of us are addicted to something, whether it be harmful substances, gambling, food, shopping, sex or social media. The lack of a positive sense of self that leads to these negative self-soothing strategies can be traced back to it's origin and new self-soothing practices put in place to enhance and repair self-regard rather than depleting it further.
I am struck by how many people today are badly affected by anxiety, whether generalised, particular, free floating or severe and debilitating. Tools for self-centring and self-soothing are badly needed to cope with today's highly stress-inducing culture and society, and insecurity in both work and living arrangements is widespread. I encourage self-compassion, physical care and sharing supportive relationships to increase self-nurture, boundary setting and hope for the future.
Depression is very different from melancholy. Grieving the loss of a loved one is natural and can be painfully prolonged, but does not involve the self-hatred and distorted sense of self-worth involved in severe depression. There is often suppressed or unconscious anger at others, and unfair self-blame for events that were not a client's responsibility. We will explore any long-held distorted self-beliefs and cultivate new self-compassion, forgiveness and a realistic sense of our human frailty.
So much of our distorted sense of self begins in the birth family. Family systems can trap a person into absorbing the projections directed at them by other family members for their own ends, and a lack of mirroring of their true selves can seriously hamper healthy psychological growth and a realistic self image. Untangling this web frees an individual to be themselves rather than what family members needed them to be.
Today bodywork is considered the most profound and lasting way to release trauma. I used Emotional Freedom Technique (also known as Tapping) which is combination of self-administered acupressure and guided affirmations to release trauma held in the nervous system, often for decades.
