My Approach

This is a talking therapy; we work together, sitting comfortably, more or less face to face. Sessions normally last 50 minutes. Therapy might take place once weekly by arrangement, or possibly twice or three times weekly if this feels appropriate, and according to your needs. The fundamental purpose of psychotherapy is working towards a greater understanding of oneself, and ultimately to a deeper connection to the Self, or soul.
Classical depth psychology follows the principles of C. G Jung, and is used as an organising framework for understanding life, art, spirituality, history, psychopathology, and many other things. I use Jung's model of the psyche as my theoretical basis. This method assumes that our psyche is comprised not only of a conscious level used in everyday life, but more profoundly surrounded by our personal unconscious, and in turn connected to the collective unconscious, upon which we all depend, as members of the human race, and as part of the natural life of the planet.
You can talk about anything you like in a therapy session. No preparation is required. In conversation, we talk about what feelings underlie the subject matter that comes up in a session.
If you have a dream that you would like to tell, either recent, or from the past, this is always a useful way in to further understanding in our work together.

About Me

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist and Jungian analyst, working one-to-one in a confidential setting, with clients or patients who range in age from 18 through to those in later life and old age. I work face-to-face with individuals, and online where distance makes this difficult. My private practice is in a quiet consulting room in Farnham, Surrey. Please contact me by telephone, or email, for an initial conversation.
In an an initial session we talk about what troubles you, and what you are looking for. I can tell you how I work, and what I may be able to offer you. My therapy work is based upon the assumption that we all have within us the capacity to heal ourselves and manage our lives. When beginning psychotherapy, initial change may be radical, or it may sometimes be longer slower work to effect change.
You will be offered support and empathy, and encouraged to talk about your present difficulties and your past. Together we look beneath the surface of your day-to-day life, into the meaning behind things, and into the imaginal realm of what you dream of or fantasise about. This can help you understand more about yourself, and your relationships with others. Your dreams, and the events of your life, and your own interests are all valuable, and can be talked about in therapy sessions.
I am interested in a client's or patient's dreams. Together we can value the imagination and its healing power. I believe in the creative aspects of the inner world of the psyche. Working together in a therapy session, we can make connections between your present and past experiences, from your early childhood right up to the recent past, and circumstances in your present life.

My private practice is of over 20 years duration. I am a qualified psychotherapist and analyst, a professional member and training analyst of the Association of Jungian Analysts, London. I am registered with UKCP as both psychotherapist and supervisor. I hold membership of the International Association of Analytical Psychology, the Confederation for Analytical Psychology, the C G Jung Club London, and the Guild of Pastoral Psychology .
