My Approach

I am a Systemic Psychotherapist, sometimes referred to as a Family Therapist. I favour a strength-based, non-blame approach, in which the problem is the problem and not the person, and problems are embedded in relationships and context, not within people. The approach fits individuals, couples, families or larger systems.
I work in a collaborative and conversational way. I am told I am warm, engaging and containing. My practice leans towards Narrative Therapy, meaning there is an interest in themes, the language we use, our family scripts: the stories told about us and stories we tell ourselves. I help clients reauthor their stories and challenge any dominant, unhelpful narratives.
In my couples work, I use Systemic ideas and principles of EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), which is underpinned by Attachment.
In family work, I facilitate healthier communication, and different perspectives to allow everyone to be heard. I take a neutral position trying to establish shared goals and understanding.
When a child is the primary client, Systemic thinking could mean also working with the wider family, in particular the parents. I sometimes use creative tools and techniques, such as puppets and art; I started my career in play work, and my first degree was in art and drama

About Me

I am an experienced therapist who has worked extensively for 24 years supporting clients work through complicated and difficult issues with or around their relationships both past and present — and, perhaps, finding patterns in these that connect. I am passionate about supporting clients as they make sense of these, and helping them live their preferred future, hopes and dreams.

I became interested in Systemic Family Therapy 15 years ago. I trained at IFT (Institute of Family Therapy) 2007–2009, and Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust 2012–2014. As well as doing private work, I work in a complex needs team within a London Local Authority as their Lead Clinician.
In terms of accessibility, I offer therapy online (Zoom or Teams). This is also a method that works for families when they may be living in different locations or if scheduling therapy into their lives presents challenges.
I can see clients face to face in a lovely room in Chelsea, London, and also in St Leonards, East Sussex. I can see clients outdoors, walking, or in their homes, workplaces or another place of their choice. I am prepared to offer concessions to help enable more people to access therapy.

My work is around and relationships and communication and within this context I have considerable experience working with those with Neuro diversity including ASC (Autistic Spectrum condition) and ADHD.
I have traine di nmany evidence based parenting programmes.
Systemic thinking privileges both the relationship between client and therapist, and in exploring the multiple relationships you are within.
I offer dynamic and experiential training I have provided group supervision and case consultations for the last 5 years. I have taught on the graduate course of systemic training, also supporting over 10 students on year 1 and 2 in completing their hours by offering 1:1 supervision.
