My Approach

I define my approach as Relational, as for all the theories and models of therapy out there, the one truth there is that healing, resolution of conflict, easing of anxiety, call it what you will; occurs in the connection and interconnection between people.
You may tell me your history, and it may be very relevant, you may tell me how unhappy you are at work or in your relationships, in my experience the most effective way that significant change happens is in the meeting of two people, in the here and now of the therapeutic relationship. It's often the things about ourselves we don't know and others do that cause us the most difficulties.
In the hurly burly of the pressures of social media and pressure to conform, I am interested in offering space for you to explore your authentic self, find out what parts you have been hiding for fear they are mocked or seen as odd or unacceptable, these are often the places where our power resides, and once you reconnect with these aspects of yourself, you discover your own authorship and autonomy.

I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist at the Minster Centre, London, graduating in 1998. I originally trained as a state registered nurse, and went on to study homeopathy, massage and craniosacral therapy before my Psychotherapy training.
I am passionate about my work as a therapist. Over the past five years I have been developing a Relational model of psychotherapy, which combines the learning I have gained both in my psychotherapy practice and in the learning and practice as a craniosacral therapist. Research confirms it is the quality of the relationship between you and your therapist that brings about relief from symptoms and an increase in well-being. If you are interested in learning more, I'm very happy to meet with you for up to 30minutes, to give you a chance to see if I'm someone you would feel comfortable talking to, and for me to see if I have the relevant skills to support you.

As time has gone by I have found I work with experienced counsellors and psychotherapists, interested in their own continuous personal development or hitting a crisis in their lives.I work with individuals for short and long term work. I work online as well as face to face.

About Me

I have learned through my own therapy and my work as a therapist, lecturer and supervisor, that being listened to, really listened to; creates amazing changes and shifts. I am really interested in the body mind spirit connection; often pain on an emotional level manifests in physical illnesses or mental health symptoms such as anxiety and depression. A search for meaning in life is a valid reason to come for therapy.
I have been married for 40 years, so understand the both the challenges and pleasures that close relationships bring. Though I am heterosexual, I have experience with working with gender fluid people as well as people identifying themselves as being within the LGBT community.
Many people come to see me at crisis times in their lives; I have been through my own 'dark night of the soul' I have accompanied others as they navigate theirs.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Hand in hand with my interest in training, I am also passionate about my supervision practice. I love working with therapists from all modalities, and see a particular skill of mine as building the confidence of practitioners, so they can have the confidence to work from the best authentic self. Ethical practice is also a passion of mine, I am interested in how to work relationally with people, take risks with them to challenge and fully engage with them. I believe this is only possible to do if ethical mindedness is at the forefront of thinking, to ensure all your interactions are done in the service of your client.
I have discovered a passion for training counsellors and psychotherapists, I am particularly interested in the aspects of personal development and development of intersubjective skills. The relational aspect of therapy is the new buzz word, but few trainings model how to work relationally.
