About Me

As an Integrative therapist, I believe that being human is an adventure and a challenge. Sometimes, we get stuck along the way which can be painful, frightening and lonely. I offer a warm, confidential space where you can feel safe from judgement. In a session, I will listen to you and help you explore your experiences. I will engage with you and support you in discovering your truth, giving you the option to change what is hurting you.
My approach to therapy is based on a deep understanding of our needs as people and the distress we may suffer. I can help with depression, loss, anxiety and living through a crisis. In addition, I specialise in relationship issues; caring for self under pressure; disordered eating; living with a disabling or disruptive condition; living with someone with a mental health problem; issues around migration; recovery from being a victim of crime; general self-care; and long-term psychotherapy.

Integrative counselling, Integrative psychotherapy and self-care
Integrative practitioners believe that relationships are at the core of our being. To thrive, we need good relationships with ourselves and others. I also believe that each person has an innate urge to grow and, if necessary to heal. Therapy can activate, support and strengthen this process. It is a collaboration where I am on your side, assisting you in identifying your goals, working through difficulties and moving on.
Integrative therapy aims to bring together the various parts of human experience. I will pay special attention to your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours in the context of your important relationships. If you come for short-term counselling, we will focus on your current experiences, for example support you through a crisis. In long-term psychotherapy, it is possible to address recurring problems. We would look at other times in your life and try to integrate earlier experiences so you can feel more whole and live more fully.
Self-care concerns the way we relate to ourselves and can be an issue during times of pressure or uncertainty. If it's difficult to relax from stressful work or constant worries you, you may benefit from reviewing your self-care with me. Over one to four sessions, we can explore your needs and think together about ways to get them met.

About me
Growing up in Germany, I was always interested in people as well as other cultures and languages. I worked in healthcare and offices, and I travelled. At university, I studied literature to doctoral level. When I faced problems in an important relationship, I had psychotherapy which changed my life for the better. Twenty years ago, I moved permanently to England. Here, I taught German, ESOL and English until I began training as a counsellor and psychotherapist.
I started out in the psychodynamic approach which centres on unconscious processes. This was fascinating, but I missed the personal warmth which I had found so helpful when I was a client. I changed to Integrative counselling and psychotherapy because it acknowledges the importance of good relationships. As part of my training, I had more personal therapy so I really know what it's like to be in the client’s chair. Since becoming a UKCP-registered therapist, I have continued with my personal and professional development. In particular, I have attended further training on helping with experiences of abuse; shame; self-criticism; and disordered eating.
