About Me

Choosing a therapist can be daunting and confusing, so here I seek to explain a little of what I do and demystify some of the questions you may have about seeking counselling or therapy.

Why would you come to see me?
If you are looking to talk to someone who can be alongside you whilst you navigate the difficulties that have brought you to seek counselling. This may be a specific problem or a current crisis or perhaps a vaguer sense that something doesn't feel quite right for you; whatever the reason we will focus on your particular circumstances and experiences. Sometimes life doesn't work out the way we've expected or wanted and having a confidential space to talk about that can be helpful. You may have fears, worries or anxieties about aspects of your life that are making you feel low or depressed; therapy can be a place to explore this. It's an opportunity to engage in discussion of what's possible and often to acknowledge what isn't; seeing life through a different lens can at times be challenging but hopefully rewarding.
My Approach:
It is a collaborative approach. We will engage in dialogue, much like a conversation; one that focuses on you yet always with the underlying and ever-present question of 'what's it all about'? As humans we all yearn for a sense of purpose, for meaning that makes living more worthwhile. This is something different and unique for each of us; we will venture together to further your self-understanding of what makes you, you and how to enhance your day to day, moment to moment existence.

What is the commitment?
It can be hard to talk openly and freely to others in our lives and talking to an independent person at a specific time on a regular basis can help to unburden yourself. Usually this will mean coming to a fifty minute session at the same time and place on a weekly basis. You may have many other questions about the counselling/therapy process and I am happy to talk to you by phone if you are unsure whether to proceed. If and when you feel ready, we will have an initial session where we can discuss any queries or concerns you have before deciding whether we will continue to meet and if that will be on either a fixed term or on-going basis.

In addition to my private practice I have extensive experience working in a variety of settings including the NHS, the charity sector, within the Jewish community , working with patients and their families impacted by cancer and in the field of further education.
