My Approach

Therapy provides an opportunity to reflect on what is troubling you away from the usual distractions of everyday life. I see it as a joint endeavour to which I bring my theoretical & clinical experience, and you bring your experience of being you. Together, we can be gently curious about your thoughts & feelings, and explore conscious and non-conscious ”ways of being” that may be contributing to your distress. I aim to support you in identifying your inner resources and exploring how you can draw on them to feel less overwhelmed. I believe each client is unique, and so I aim to tailor each therapy to suit you, the individual.

About Me

Online therapist with MSc. & Clin. Dip. in Integrative Psychotherapy. Certified by the Online Therapy Institute. Long & short-term ONLINE therapy offered. Discounted, obligation-free first session. Contact me for a FREE phone call to ask any questions you may have before booking a session.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

While this category is called 'Anger Management', I prefer to think of my approach as 'Anger Curiosity'. Rather than seeking to 'manage' anger, I encourage clients to be curious about their anger. Together we can be curious about when it happens; what memories you may have of your own anger and that of others in your family of origin. How was anger managed? Was it talked about? How do you feel about your own anger? In asking such questions, and exploring the answers without judgment, we can begin to understand why feelings of anger are triggered - and also what other emotions may be present. For example, anger can be a response to feeling rejected, or not in control of a situation. Whatever your experience of anger might be, we can be curious about it together, and think about when and why it came into being. The more clearly we are able to understand your unique experience of anger, the more likely it is that you will find yourself on the path to change.
There's a lot in the media about anxiety these days - especially 'Social Anxiety'. Anxiety is something we all experience at some time or another, but for some of us it can become overwhelming. Rather than try to suppress anxiety, I am interested in listening to it. What is it trying to tell us? Often, our anxiety is trying to help us out - warm us of a sense of impending danger. In exploring it, we can begin to understand, more fully, why it's present and what it's trying to tell us. The more fully we understand our individual anxieties, the better equipped we are to deal with whatever is causing them. Over time, the anxiety fades as it is no longer 'needed'. I think of this as dealing with the root cause, rather than simply treating the symptoms.
I work exclusively online, and have undertaken extensive training in how to do so safely. In my experience, online therapy can be very effective and is a great way for anyone who might struggle to attend in-person sessions to access therapy. Psychiatric drugs are often prescribed by G.P.'s following diagnoses of depression or anxiety. If you are considering taking psychiatric drugs, or if you are already taking psychiatric drugs and are considering withdrawal, therapy can provide a safe space in which to explore your hopes and fears around psychiatric drug use; as well as plan practical steps to manage the process. I can support you in exploring what support networks might be available to you, and how you might communicate with loved ones about the potential impact of any change in your psychiatric drug use. For example, some side effects of tapering off psychiatric drugs can mimic symptoms of the original presentation. thinking, feelings and behaviours. Research shows that withdrawal reactions when coming off anti-depressants can range from mild to severe, and could last for anything between 2 weeks to months or, sometimes, years. Having a therapist alongside you as you consider, or make, any changes to your psychiatric drug use, can be beneficial as it offers a unique space in which to focus on your unique experiences of such a journey.
Relationships come in many forms - romantic partners; family; friends; and also our relationship with ourselves, i.e. how we think of ourselves and how we imagine others see us. If you are struggling with any particular relationship, or if you feel, generally, that your relationships with others are unsatisfactory, therapy can provide the ideal space to explore your inner narrative about yourself and how that may be impacting the way you relate to others.
