Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Relationships are a tricky business ...you may be experiencing a rough patch ....you may be trying to decide whether to separate from your partner. Couples can find themselves going round and round the same arguments and frustrations. This is not easy and couple counselling can be a good way forward. I will help you to gain to gain a balanced perspective on your relationship and your contribution to its' success . I often provide help to 'do something different', as well as helping you to explore your feelings and thoughts with your partner. The first step if often the most difficult and you may not be able to agree with your partner about whether to begin counselling. You may have different goals. My primary concern is that you get the best possible help. I will provide a caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment for you to work out what is best for you as an individual or as a couple.
Families often get stuck in the 'same old arguments' going round and round without things being any different. If this is happening, I would encourage you to book a therapy session, where you can talk through difficulties with a neutral to guide to manage the sharing & talking. It can be difficult to get everyone in a family to agree to therapy /counselling. I believe that any one person in a family taking some steps to improve things ...will have an impact on the rest of the family...so I will work with you even if other family members decide that this is not for them.
Relationships can bring joy but also challenges . They are often complicated . Sometimes we are held back by our relationships with others . When relationships go awry... this can impact our mood and our ability to function. I will work with you on building self confidence , improving mood and decision making and working towards ensuring your relationships are satisfying & harmonious.
I work with individuals who wish to work through traumatic events. ..by providng a 'brave space' . I can provide alternatives to 'putting it a box' or ignoring the painful memories . These are strategies which support an individuals' reconnection with their resilience . This does not involve re-living or talking through painful experiences.
Since 2004, I have worked with employees referred by insurance companies with a range of challenges impacting on a person's ability to do their job. Sometimes the challenges are within work such as demanding workloads, conflicts with colleagues or managers , ill health and sick leave. Challenges at home will often also impact on someone at their workplace. An employee can often then struggle with low mood & anxiety. If this is your situation , I will work on improving mood , managing anxiety , workload management & planning a return to work. Increasingly , I am working with employees who are struggling with the impact of long covid.
