My Approach

My personal leaning and approach is predominantly informed by Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic thinking and theory. My Integrative training, however, was pluralistic and I don't adhere to just one school of thought but aim to work flexibly, responding to the individual needs of clients. I prioritise the providing of a safe, reliable, thoughtful and supportive therapeutic space where clients can think together with their therapist about present concerns as well as their hopes and fears. With all clients, I aim to listen sensitively and with compassion. As well as what the client brings, I am mindful of what may be less easy to think about and what might be communicated unconsciously.

I believe that change towards healthier self esteem and more enjoyable and satisfying relationships can happen organically through the therapeutic relationship. I conceptualise this as a kind of provision by the therapist of a mental space within which the client can explore their emotions and develop their reflective capacity thereby strengthening their own agency and resilience. I aim ultimately to help clients enhance and develop their own self care and self support systems so that they can help themselves improve their quality of life.

About Me

I have over 12 years experience of working therapeutically with children, adolescents and adults.

I work with

  • Children and young people
  • Individuals
  • Private healthcare referrals

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have extensive experience working with parents which can be a fruitful way to support their parenting and their children's development and is an alternative to working directly with the young person. I aim to provide a space for parent/s to think together with me about the possible meanings of their child's behaviour, what it might be bringing up in them, helping parents to look at the larger family and societal system that we are all operating within as well as thinking about the particular challenges (physical, psychological, emotional) of the process of growing up.
