Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I am passionate about working with those who are experiencing life transitions associated with becoming older.
Anxiety and panic attacks - the best way to describe a panic attack is an intense short period of anxiety without any obvious explanation such as an external threat or medical reason. Panic attack symptoms can include breathlessness, faintness, nausea, chest pains, irregular heart beat, and feeling terrified. They are not life threatening but often the first time you experience one you think you are about to die or that you are experiencing a heart attack. The main trigger in panic attacks is often the fear that you are going to have a panic attacks. CBT offers ways of identifying the thinking patterns that are reinforcing this belief and causing you to panic. I will assist you in retraining yourself to cope with the irrational fear of panicking, so that you can begin to take control of the situation and enable you to increase your ability to cope with panic attacks if they happen and more importantly lessen your fears of them.
The death of a loved one can turn our world upside down which can lead to feelings of confusion, fear and anxiety. Allow yourself time to adjust to your changed circumstances and give your self the space and time to grieve Grief affects people in different ways but many people ( at the depth of their suffering) speak of feeling lonely, empty and isolated. It can be useful to express how you feel by reaching out to family and friends express your thoughts, feelings and emotions to others who understand what your needs are. If you feel that you need more help speak to your family doctor or consult another health professional. You can also get in contact with a trained counsellor who will be able to provide (in confidence) the opportunity for you to share the grief you and others feel.
. I am also passionate about working with people at the end of their lives or who are terminally ill.
Feelings of depression include feeling unhappy or hopeless, low self-esteem and finding no pleasure in things you usually enjoy.
