I like to talk on the phone or answer emails so I can answer your questions and hear a bit about what has brought you to this stage. We can discuss any ideas you have about how you might best be helped and I can talk about the approaches I can offer. I can work online or in person. I work at the Matlock Therapy Centre which is in the centre of town with street parking outside or in a local pay and display car park. It is wheelchair accessible with quiet and pleasant private rooms. https://www.matlocktherapycentre.co.uk/therapists-derbyshire-matlock/ .The first appointment is where I start to listen and discuss what you would like to change and when we've agreed this I then offer a written contract. I like to be open about how we work together throughout the therapy and I'm keen to gain feedback and adapt so we work alongside each other and I work at my best for you.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I have supported and helped professionals who have experienced occupational stress and related bullying in the workplace. In particular I have worked with nurses, paramedics, teachers, social workers, ocupational therapists , psychologists and medical staff particularly in public service like NHS, social services or education are particular interests.
I also offer cross cultural couple work. Whilst these differences are often enhancing in relationships opening up new viewpoints they can also cause difficulties negotiating at the time of marriage, joining families, differences in parenting children and at retirement.
I have expertise in working with depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, trauma and abuse. I work predominantly with couples and families but also offer individual sessions . I am also interested in the issues brought up by cross cultural difference in couples . I have worked with adult siblings and three generational family members and sometimes family friends. I am keen to invite anyone who is wanting to create and support change in their network whoever that is. I pay alot of attention to the context of the difficulties such as times of change in family lifecycle. Many families and couples find that at certain times in life they get stuck such as transitions in life such as at retirement, when becoming a young adult and adapting to changes in health if alot of life events happen at the same time. I know that trauma can also bring specsific challenges that can also feel overwhelming to families, couples and individuals when they are difficult and unexpected life events such as the loss of a child or loved one due to suicide, or the untimely early loss of a parent in a young adults life. (motherless daughters)
I offer couple counselling/therapy and take a special interest in cross cultural issues. I also work with adult family members - in the form of family therapy . This can include sibling groups or pairs, mother -son or daughter or father son, daughter or grandaprents and adult grandchildren and close family friends. Particular transitions in life can proove a challenge I find like for instance becoming an independent adult in late teens and over the next decade or so. There are times in life which are more challenging like when you negotiating becoming a young family, or becoming a romantic couple again after children become young adults and retirement and adapting to significant changes in health. I love to work across the age groups including those who might consider themselves as older adults.
I have offered supervision for 20 years to a range of qualified clinical psychologist , trainees Clinical Psychologists, Family therapists , CYIAPT trainees, counsellors , CBT therapists individually. I have also supervised health related managers and Human Resource/organsational change managers about organisational systems/team management issues. I also offer group supervision . I can work with you online or face to face . I am an Accredited supervisor with a Diploma in Supervsion and I am listed on the Asssociation of Family Therapy.
