Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

I work with clients who have experienced childhood abuse or traumas; I will support you through exploring these and the impact that they have left on your life and work with you to try to cope with life in the present and rebuild yourself.
I have worked in the field of bereavement for 20 years as my counselling training started with me being a bereavement support volunteer. I work with people who have experienced different losses, such as from a long illness or a sudden death; the loss of a child or pregnancy. I also work with people who have suffered traumatic losses such as from suicide, an accident or a violent crime.
I have a background in nursing and have also counselled in a family support service within a hospice; so I have significant experience of working with both patients with cancer and family members.
Having a background in nursing helps me to understand the complications and emotional impact of living with a chronic illness; I will help support you in understanding yourself and how your illness impacts you.
I have a PG Diploma in trauma therapy; I work with people who have experienced trauma in their past, such as childhood abuse or bullying or domestic abuse, as well as people who have experienced more current traumas and may be suffering from PTSD such as a car accident, an assault or have witnessed a violent crime.
