My Approach

I practice as a Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapist & Clinical / Academic Supervisor

About Me

My core training was Humanistic Person Centred. I work from both this model and also from an Integrative model, and am therefore able to work with trainees from both of these approaches.

Psychotherapy could be defined as: a process whereby psychological difficulties can be worked with and developed in to a more positive way of being through communication and relationship between an individual and a therapist. From a Humanistic & Integrative perspective, it is the therapeutic relationship between myself (the therapist) and you (the client) that enables exploration of issues, growth and change.

As a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapist, accredited with UKCP and fully insured I offer a confidential, non-judgmental and client-centered space in which we can explore any issues which may concern you.

When choosing psychotherapy it is crucial that a connection (working alliance) is present between yourself and your therapist. I therefore offer a no obligation initial 15 minute phone call to gain a sense of whether you would like to go ahead with a first session, at which we can get to know each other and decide if we would be comfortable working with one another.

I work from Beeston, and have disabled access. There is safe on street Parking and the train, tram and bus services are within walking distance.

I have 17 years post qualification experience. I offer both short term focused psychotherapy and longer term exploratory psychotherapy. I have worked with patients and staff within the NHS - both short and long term, in schools with primary aged children through to young adults at college, clients in private practice, within the voluntary sector. I also teach and offer clinical / acadmic supervision. Some of the issues I work with are (but not limited to); Workplace stress, Bullying, Bereavement, Anxiety, Low self esteem, relationship issues, relationship issues, anger, eating disorders, depression, family dynamics are some of the issues I have worked with. Please refer to the full list of areas I work in.

I work at a clients pace accepting whatever it is that you wish to bring to the therapy, listening and allowing you the time and space to organise your concerns, thoughts and solutions. Having trained Humanistically I integrate several schools of therapy into my work, the philosophies of which all align. I am particularly mindful of events that may of happened in the past and the impact and connection these have with the present. I will not tell you what to do and do not posses a magic wand; however, I will help you explore patterns, behaviours and dynamics and alongside this look at how any learnt behaviours may possibly be affecting you now. We can then look at how different ways of being and managing could create a new way living.

Sometimes clients may only require short term counselling; for others the counselling / therapy process can take much longer. Either way is fine.

Counselling and psychotherapy can be a rewarding experience and offers you the opportunity to reach your full potential.

I hold a Masters Degree in Humanistic Person Centered psychotherapy and a PG Diploma in Humanistic Person Centered Psychotherapy, and a Diploma in Clinical teaching supervision. I have also trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and have completed training modules in Eating Disorders, Obesity and Nutrition.

As a registered UKCP therapist I adhere to their ethical code of practice and to those of The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI).

I am also a UKCP accredited Supervisor and have spaces for individuals and groups.
