My Approach

I am an experienced psychotherapist who supports individuals to make sense of their lives and find ways to feel more at peace with themselves. Research shows that it is the relationship between the client & therapist that is the most important aspect of therapy.

I encourage people to adopt an attitude of curiosity and compassion as we explore together their difficulties. I pay attention to holding patterns in the body. Trauma and overwhelming stress create activation of the survival system, a bit like the accelerator constantly pressed down in the car. The body and mind finds it difficult to switch off. These leaves individuals experiencing tension, physical illness and/or disconnection from their bodies and emotions. Helping people reconnect with their inner world is an important part of how I work.

I encourage people to adopt an attitude of curiosity about the origins of their problems. I pay attention to holding patterns in the body drawing from somatic trauma therapy. I work with children, teenagers, adults and professionals who need support at a time in their lives when there is too much going on.

I am a qualified Adult & Child Psychotherapist. I have over 25 years of working with people who have experienced emotional distress, trauma and developmental neglect.

Special Interests

Like all UKCP registered psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors I can work with a wide range of issues, but here are some areas in which I have a special interest or additional experience.

Anxiety is one of the main reasons people come to therapy. In the UK it is effecting millions of adults and children. Anxiety is a response to stress which causes both physical sensations and repetitive thinking patterns. It can effect your quality of life, sleep and relationships. Living with pressure, uncertainty and fear are some of the reasons for anxiety starting. Talking to a therapist can help you learn strategies to manage your anxiety and find the underlying cause/s.
Grief is part of life and a natural response to the loss of a cared for other. This might be a person, a loved pet, a place or a response to a life event such as divorce, retirement of children leaving home. Sometimes the natural healing process of mourning gets blocked leaving a sense of stuckness and difficulty in being able to enjoy life again. Additional help from a trained therapist can help provide a space to grieve the losses that you have experienced and help you move forward towards a place of acceptance. When we loose someone we love, life is never the same as it was before. Adjusting to loss takes time and can have an impact on your energy levels. A trained, caring professional experienced in grief can help.
Trauma can affect the whole of our life, our relationships, our sleep. Trauma creates a stress response in the survival system. People can experience tension, physical illness and/or disconnection from their bodies and emotions. Helping people reconnect with their inner world is an important part of how I work and moving forward from trauma. I offer a nature based approach involving horses.
